Among the best Izakaya I personally tasted in Kuching, if you consider the price (which is super reasonable comparing to the over-charged Izakaya out there), then I would say this will be my most recommended Izakaya in Kuching area so far.
At first when you first walked into the shop, it might seems overly simple as there are not much decoration comparing the shops out there, but when they started to serve your food, then you can immediately understand why, the owner just decided to put the money into getting better quality ingredients for you, just look at the matcha, this is the most flavourful matcha I ever had in Kuching, the others are overly overly diluted until you can barely see the colour of the "tea".
Then when you taste the meat skewer, the fish, the mushroom, you can taste the sweetness of the ingredients with a hint of the smokiness from the charcoal grill, unlike some of the Izakaya I visited in Kuching, they either using electrical grill (which losses the unique charcoal flavor) or the charcoal fire is so strong that they burnt the food and you can even taste the ashes of the charcoal sticking on your food (as some of the shop uses electrical fan to keep the charcoal fire going). I like the balance it strikes by preserving the original flavor of the ingredients while bringing out the "umami" of the food from the seasoning they used.
The kitchen closes at around 11pm, so if you fancy some beer at night and would like to try some good skewers or other Japanese cuisine without having to be overly charged, I recommend you to visit Tomodachi Izakaya, before it became...

The ambience is nice & cozy. 😊 Those wall inside are full of hand drawing pictures of Japan & some other creative design. Simple yet chic isn't it. Why not snap a photo at here?
This is my 2nd visit here and i really miss the unagi onigiri. After finished the 1st one, before i felt regret again & yes... add-on order for another one. 😂
My friend ordered the fried mushroom & wow the taste is still marvellous like last time i ever tried. If not mistaken the chef use tempura to fried those mushroom & the yummy smell flowed into your nostrils just before it is serve on your table. 😋
The dish is well prepare & no oily issue here. (When comes to fried dishes, I personally hate having those fried foods with oily appearance & taste. A good chef will use right temperature to fried foods & that just crispy...crispy... yummy... not oily. 😉)
One of my friend ordered the japanese curry rice & she said it is nice. 👍 she really enjoy the curry sauce. (😁Sorry that i forgot this dish name cause i dun really able to memorize the romaji name on the menu. 😆)
Other dishes as i can remember are cold noodles, scallop, edamame and ......
👍 Thumb up for the delicious dishes prepare by the chef.
By the way, here is “居酒屋” therefore, varieties of alcohol available at here. The speciality of this shop is they would advise you to enjoy the drink but not get yourself drunk. Especially for those customer that need to drive themself home. 😊
Last but no least, the service at here is good. Friendly customer service & will surely pay another visit...
Read moreThis wonderful spot was discovered opposite Viva City (access road to Chawan Road from the traffic light). A nice spot to eat with a variety of tasty Japanese dishes. The serving size is generous, and the pricing is reasonable for the chicken chop I ordered. The personnel is friendly and the ambiance is pleasant and relaxing. A great venue to spend precious time with family and friends. Izakaya translates literally as "居酒屋". It is a casual dining restaurant establishment for after-work parties and casual get-togethers in...
