This was our last family gathering before heading back home to Vancouver. My brother, sister-in-law, niece, and her friend were arriving from Perth that same day, so we decided to meet at Oriental Kopi, a convenient spot for everyone. We also invited a couple of other family members, making us a group of 12.
We tried calling and WhatsApp the restaurant to reserve tables, but couldn’t get through. At this location, they don’t take reservations (and the staff weren’t sure if reservations are accepted at other branches either). When we arrived, there was already a long queue for tables, especially since it was lunchtime. Naturally, arranging a table for 12 wasn’t easy, but after a short wait the staff managed to set us up quickly by combining and flipping tables after the previous customers left.
Service was friendly and efficient. The staff were attentive and clearly used to handling the busy crowd. Ordering was simple, they provided us with a menu and an order sheet to write down what we wanted, which was convenient given how long it took for everyone in our group to decide.
I went with the Nasi Lemak (my 10th or so Nasi Lemak during this trip, haha), while my wife chose the Mee Goreng. The dishes came out fairly quickly, one after another, without much waiting. My only comment is on the Nasi Lemak with Ayam Goreng (fried chicken). The chicken was definitely cooked through, but the oil or fryer temperature seemed too high. The exterior was over-fried, while the meat inside was moist but didn’t quite allow the spice marinade to shine, almost as if it was pulled out too quickly. Not a major issue, but noticeable.
Overall, it was a good lunch for everyone. The restaurant was clean, organized, and the service left a good impression. For a busy airport location with such a large group, Oriental Kopi handled it very well.
If you’re coming with a large group (more than 6 people), be prepared to wait a little longer for seating, but the staff will do their best to...
Read moreI visited this restaurant slightly before 12 noon on a weekday. At that time, there was no queue, but most of the seats were already occupied, indicating its popularity. The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of dishes, and it took us some time to decide on our order. Eventually, we opted for their signature Nasi Lemak, Curry Laksa Mee, Prawn Meehoon Mee, and their highly recommended egg tart.
The Nasi Lemak was aromatic, with well-cooked, fragrant coconut rice complemented by a flavorful sambal. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, yet tender and juicy inside, making it a satisfying choice. The Curry Laksa Mee had a rich, spicy broth with a deep, authentic flavor, striking a good balance between spice and creaminess. The Prawn Meehoon Mee had a milder taste profile, with its broth drawing natural sweetness from the prawns—an ideal option for those who prefer a lighter dish.
The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly their egg tart. The pastry was crisp and flaky, while the custard filling was smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. We also tried their Oriental Kopi and Teh Tarik, both of which had a pleasant, robust flavor without being overly sweet. The coffee had a notable bitterness that complemented the meal well.
Service was efficient, with our food arriving in under 15 minutes. The portion sizes were generous, and overall, we were highly satisfied with the taste and quality of the food. Additionally, we confirmed with the staff that this outlet is halal-certified, though not all branches have obtained certification yet.
By the time we finished our meal, a queue had already formed outside, reinforcing the restaurant’s strong reputation. For those looking for authentic local flavors with quick service, this spot is definitely...
Read morePoor SOP & Disappointing Service – Second Bad Experience at Oriental Kopi KLIA2
We visited the Oriental Kopi branch at KLIA2 today, and unfortunately, this is our second disappointing experience with this brand. I don’t recall the exact details of the first time, but I clearly remember walking away with a bad impression — and today just confirmed it.
Here’s what happened:
We placed our order at 7:11 AM. By the 30-minute mark, we were still waiting for the last item to be served. Around 20 minutes in, we asked one of the staff to help check — but we didn’t even get an update. We had to ask another staff later on. He did attempt to explain something, maybe about a machine breaking down or an issue with the item, but we couldn’t catch what he was saying clearly, and he ended it by telling us to wait another 3 minutes.
Obviously, that “3 minutes” led to nothing. After that, we had to give up and cancel the item altogether — we’re at an airport, and we were running out of time.
Yes, the last staff member who helped us cancel did apologise, but by that point, it honestly meant nothing to us anymore. We were already frustrated, and the damage was done.
What’s most unacceptable is the complete lack of a proper SOP: • No communication or proactive updates from staff • No time awareness, especially in an airport setting • No system in place to manage delays or inform customers clearly
For a listed company, this level of service is seriously disappointing. I expected better. If your team cannot even handle airport traffic or time-sensitive situations, how do you expect customers to trust your brand?
