First time visiting, in a singular street containing an estimated 10 or so bak kut teh(BKT) shop in SS14, I was hard pressed on finding which one I would try first. 🤔
Due to a friend's recommmendation we chosen this particular shop due to past experience and the noticeable modern sign board in the front of the shop. I'm happy to say we made the right choice as the food was fantastic 😍.
As we came quite early at around 4pm, we noticed that this shop is also one of the few that is open early and ready to accept us as their first customer of the day which is impressive 😃. The head chef also warmly greeted us with smiles which definitely caught me off guard in a nice way 😊.
We ordered both the soup and dry BKT with our choice of meat parts, both options were delicious 😋.
The soup BKT was full of flavour but too imposing, allowing me to constantly enjoy it as is with plenty of refills, the meat was much more tender than other BKT shops I have tried allowing me to enjoy it much more than I should have, amazing 🤩.
The dry BKT was also a standout, it's well seasoned with the herbs and spices giving it a light kick that's a perfect compliment to the soup BKT with it's also tender meat.
As someone who does not frequently eat BKT, I can wholeheartedly endorse this particular shop due to my experience and I find both the Soup and Dry BKT a must order. Careful not to order too much as we ordered a 2 person portion for each which was more than enough.
We also had the choice of tea from Puer, Jasmine, Chrysanthemum and more but it was just okay, the teapot was quite small making it not able to fill 2 tall Ice cups.
Aside from the head chef and boss lady, the service staff were also a bit reluctant to take our refill requests which again caught me off guard.
The price I consider average but well worth it, our 2 person portion soup & dry BKT averaged around RM33 per person.
Overall, a fantastic BKT shop which makes me wanna revisit in the near future.

Read moreIt's rare to come by a place that has actually been improving in standards over the years. Ah Ping's soup and pork cooking time has been getting increasingly refined even as their competitors of the same row have been drastically declining.
This is also one of those places that has been losing its crowd even as the prices are forced to increase due to market prices of pork and it is sad especially when the quality is getting better.
The soup is now very thick, rich and leaves a bit of a sticky finish at the end. I love it. They're actually getting more and more obviously traditional Klang bakuteh style (although yes, I think they're memang from Klang, Teluk Pulai if I am not wrong) in terms of the soup although adapted more towards KL-PJ liking to have it in claypot format and mix with the other ingredients. Heavier on the garlic taste but not exactly shy on the herbal taste neither.
Sometimes, they give me surprisingly good parts even when I did not specify the part that I am looking for. If you're in Klang, tua kut and sai kut usually need to pay extra and must order in advance. But perhaps loyal customers, Ah Ping will sometimes just give it to us 🤣 Or maybe they're generous like that to all, I can't be too sure.
If you're looking for a cross in between Klang and KL-PJ style bakuteh, or just too lazy to go all the way to Klang, Ah Ping is a good place to get your bakuteh fix. Their dry bakuteh is really good too.
They're only available at night time, parking can be a bit difficult but usually easier to find on the back row (they have entrance on both sides and the back row is not a backlane). Shop can get a bit humid on days but the outdoor seating is very...
Read moreAs a bah kuh teh fan & as someone who’s very familiar & tried many of the best bah kuh teh in Klang, they are neither close nor are they that bad to the point that makes them worst in KL. So I would say that bah kuh teh is slightly above average if you were to compare with bah kuh teh in KL but is definitely miles apart if you were to compare with some of the best in Klang. On top of that, the portion has also been reduced over the years even though the price has gone up, so it was a little sad to be honest. That’s as far as the food goes.
Over the years, their business has drop significantly. It used to be very popular and extremely pack back in the day until you have to line up & queue in order to get a table but nowadays it’s pretty easy to find a table in spite of peak/busy hours. However, that didn’t affect service quality. Their staff were friendly and service is pretty quick as well. They even provided us extra chairs for my group of friends to put our bags when we gotten our table. I personally thought it was very nice of them to do so, they take care of their customers well.
But at the end of the day, as good as their service & environment were, for a bah kuh teh stall I still need to rate it according to how good their food is because that’s what I came here for. Since most of their food are just slightly above average, I could only give a 3/5 rating at best. Would I recommend my friends & family to give this place a try? Sure, why not. But I wouldn’t tell them that this is the best place for bah kuh teh because it is most...
