DEFINITELY SUGGESTED!!! Mitħna restaurant is the best restaurant in Malta, the place where my heart belongs! First of all, as a Celiac and Lactose Intolerant I should say that travelling for me it's a bit risky when comes about food... But it's a joy every time I'm back in Malta to always be the happiest guest of Mitħna's owner, Manuel, he's always there with the kindest smile and a nice word to cheer you up and help you at his best! He puts more than 100% effort on his restaurant which is the only one on the Island where I'm more than sure that I can enjoy my meal, with a restful mind! If I book in advance he makes me found gluten free bread, if I order fries I'm sure they're fried only for me, I discovered again the pleasure to enjoy my favourite meal, calamari fritti, crunchy exquisite but still gluten free of course! The perfect frame to all of this, is the cultural side of the venue, obviously I mean the suggestive, enchanting and antique atmosphere of the "Wind Mill" very intelligently refurbished living the antique experience still there for everyone to take a quick deep into the past, into its history! Thanks a lot Manuel, I truly hope to see you...
Read moreVisited 28/09/18 with 13 others and a child. The food was on the slow side to arrive but the waiters were pleasant enough. Issues we had was a member of our party asking for chicken in their mushroom risotto and was told that she'd be charged for 2 main courses which I thought was a bit unreasonable. Main courses were slow to arrive with only 2 waiters running up and down the stairs from the kitchen. Sides were served in large dishes between people which was no where near enough for our group, and some sides didn't arrive until people had nearly finished their meals. The mother of a child in our group asked for some tomato pasta for her 3 year old, and a plate of buttered pasta arrived which the child didn't like at all. I don't blame him, it was the most bland plate of food I've ever seen. Once finished only some of our party were asked if they wanted a dessert etc, and in fact, started clearing the table, taking wine glasses whilst people were outside for a cigarette. On the whole, the quality of food was very good, but at the same time, a seriously underwhelming venue. An anticlimax for our holiday...
Read moreUnfortunately the food here is not prepared by someone who knows what they're doing, or it certainly wasn't when we visited. My husband works with restaurants around the world and we were excited to try this place as it came recommend but sadly it was a let down. Our starters were ok and the service was mostly excellent, especially the waitress with short hair, but the rest of our food let the place down and this is kind of the main event (e.g rabbit ravioli with coconut curry sauce- granted it was a bad order but the pasta was too thick and the dish was over salted. The pork belly had the fat removed so no crackling-why? And the duck was dry and the skin wasn't rendered). It was poorly prepared and the ingredient combinations were invented by someone who doesn't really understand food, we ate in better restaurants in Malta (or even Mellieha) for less money. The building is gorgeous so it's worth going to have a look if you're...
