Avotaco — Restaurant in Ta' Xbiex

What a horrible experience. Nothing to do at all with Mexican food even when they so sell it. We were so excited to try Mexican food again but bigger was the disappointment as soon as we get the food.

Ordered two burritos: chicken burrito meal with nachos and beef burrito:

The chicken burrito was full of a completely dry chicken meat with weird fishy taste and bones in it, a “slaw” without any flavor and some pieces of tomato, pico de gallo was completely absent and nowhere to see

The beef burrito was disgusting too, meat looked like a ultra-processed paste of artificial origin with super weird consistency and very bad color and taste, the rice was completely tasteless and the the pico de gallo and the coriander were again nowhere, only in the product description.

The nachos completely tasteless with no pinch of salt on them half-covered with a bad rub, Smelled and tasted like the old fat of the fryer.

The only good thin of the meal was the ice tea peach what came with the chicken burrito meal.

It looks like i had a jackpot isn’t it?

In general the worse culinary experience i had in malta and cannot understand the good reviews this restaurant has. No recommended and if possible to be...

I'll give them 2 stars for using fresh ingredients, and fast service. But I will agree with the other reviews...the food is just tasteless.

I couldn't tell if I was eating chicken, pork, beef, rice, beans, or what.

I can only assume the 4-star reviews are from people who have never eaten actual Mexican food before.

The spices (what little there are) are all wrong.

The meats aren't seasoned properly. The refried beans taste like they are re-fried in vegetable oil, instead of tallow. And so forth.

Look at their replies to unhappy guests. All are cut and paste replies, "We are sorry you were disappointed, please contact us so we can discuss further."

I think that shows the level of interest they have in their customers.

Again, it's fresh...which is great.

But...it just tastes like Mexican food prepared by someone...

There are many ingredients I cannot eat but this restaurant takes good care of me. They have several varieties and possibility to adjust their dishes so that it feels like I'm eating something different each time I go there! In the photo you can see the dish I devoured yesterday evening, with my friends nachos and quesadilla showing in the background. Speaking of nachos, they're made out of corn and have no wheat covering so it was safe for me to grab a few bites in case I was tempted..which of course I was and yes I did eat a handful :) awesome! Great food, great atmosphere, friendly and considerate staff, and the owner is there most of the time too so you can enjoy a chat with him too!
