A very charming hotel built around an old cement silo, with a unique layout. The hotel itself has nice, spacious rooms tastefully decorated with reclaimed wood details, a nicely stocked mini fridge, and L'Occitane toiletries. The beds are comfy and the balcony is a great place to sit in the mornings and after sunset. On top of the hotel building is an outdoor living area with a mini-kitchen setup, from which you can enjoy a peek-a-boo view of the sea. As well, the sprawling grounds have an elaborate glamping village. We peeked inside a tent and decided if we ever come back we'll do that. There is an outdoor eating area with a woodburning oven, and our second night there was woodfired pizza night with wine and live music. There's a private beach area with lounge chairs and umbrellas that's a great spot to bird watch and catch the sunset. With your stay you get a complimentary breakfast, which I thought for sure would be some kind of buffet or a to-go box. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the complimentary breakfast included coffee, orange juice, and anything from the standard breakfast portion of the menu at the onsite restaurant. Chilaquiles with chorizo? Smoked marlin quesadillas? Go nuts! What really sets Marea apart though, isn't the nice amenities- it's the customer service. I have traveled extensively and stayed in many, many hotels, and I have never come across a more attentive staff. The concierge was in frequent contact via WhatsApp with us before our visit and through our visit to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. She was gracious when we were picky and wanted to change our room to one on a higher floor. The restaurant staff went out of their way to ensure we were satisfied, fighting through the language barrier. The location is decent- less than a five minute drive from the main drag, and there are bike rentals if you're carless. There's an OXXO and farmacias within walking distance. The hotel is happy to set you up on tours. So all in all it's a truly lovely place to stay while...
Read moreWe are two couples that didn't want to stay in a large chain hotel or spend a lot on a resort because we wanted to get out and explore. The Marea turned out to be a perfect find!||The hotel property and rooms are very pretty with nice decorative touches. We liked the free secure parking and bikes to rent... Prefect for riding down to the Malecón. There were several areas to meet up with our friends and hang out. The rooftop community kitchen is very nicely stocked and includes some comfortable seating areas - we loved that they have drawers assigned to each room and a large refrigerator for storing your perishables. They also provide coffee and tea in the kitchen in case you need more than what's provided in your room. They also have water dispensers for refilling your water bottles. ||Breakfast. I don't even know where to start. We expected it to be a breakfast buffet, continental style for the guests. No, not the case at all.... Waaaay better. It's actually a restaurant that's open to the public. They have a special menu for guests that includes an assortment of delicious meals that are better than your standard eggs and toast. Nacho was our server the first 3 of the 4 mornings and oh did we enjoy his professionalism, efficiency and humor! ||There wasn't anything about the hotel that I found undesirable. The rooms are comfy, bath products are high quality, staff is friendly, helpful - I left our passports and cash in our room safe at checkout and they texted me on WhatsApp immediately to let me know.||Tip - Unfortunately, the neighbor directly next to the room entrances has a dog that barks nonstop throughout the night and they do nothing to calm it. Be sure to bring noise-canceling headphones or ear buds and play your white noise to minimize...
