A Cautionary Tale: My Experience at a Deceptive Restaurant
Dining out should be an enjoyable experience, filled with good food, great company, and a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, my recent visit to a restaurant designed to exploit unsuspecting patrons turned into a nightmare. This establishment, with its chaotic environment and manipulative staff, preyed on those of us who didn’t speak Spanish. Here’s my story, a cautionary tale for anyone considering a visit.
The Environment: A Recipe for Confusion
From the moment we stepped inside, the ambiance felt more like a Las Vegas nightclub than a restaurant. The dim lighting made it nearly impossible to read the menu, and the blaring music created a cacophony that drowned out any chance of meaningful conversation. It was clear that this chaotic atmosphere was intentional, designed to disorient guests and obscure the reality of what was happening.
The Pressure to Order
Our waiter approached with a champagne menu, and I felt an immediate sense of pressure to make a decision. Despite my attempts to clarify the prices, the waiter’s responses were vague and unhelpful. After some mental math, I believed I understood the price to be around $250 USD. However, the noise and darkness made it difficult to confirm anything with certainty.
The Shocking Revelation
As the evening progressed, the atmosphere escalated with loud music, sparklers, and a parade of waiters dancing around our table. When one of my friends decided to order a second bottle, I warned her of the supposed $250 price. To my horror, she later asked another staff member for the actual price, only to discover it was nearly $2,500! My stomach dropped as I realized we had been completely taken advantage of.
The Manager’s Unprofessional Response
In a state of distress, I sought the manager’s assistance, only to be met with hostility. Instead of addressing my concerns with empathy, he barged into the women’s bathroom, dismissing my friends and me. His aggressive gestures and refusal to acknowledge the confusion created by his staff only added to the humiliation. It was clear that he had no intention of resolving the situation and instead chose to blame us for the misunderstanding.
The Hidden Charges
After enduring the ordeal, we paid the bill and left, but the surprises didn’t end there. We discovered that we had been charged $10 per person for water we never ordered, and the sparklers came with a staggering $400 upcharge. The final blow was realizing that the bottle of Don Perignon we ordered had an additional $2,250 markup.
Conclusion: A Call for Accountability
This experience was not just about a hefty bill; it was about the exploitation of guests in a confusing and chaotic environment. The lack of transparency and the manipulative tactics employed by the staff are unacceptable. While we were fortunate enough to afford the bill, I can only imagine the distress this establishment causes to those who cannot. It’s crucial for diners to be aware of such predatory practices and for restaurants to be held accountable for their actions. Let my experience serve as a warning: always be cautious and vigilant when dining out, especially in...
Read moreIn theory, this restaurant was an incredible place to add to itinerary based on Tik Toks, Yelp + OpenTable reviews...but unless you have an unlimited flow of cash to spend here, then I would remove this place off your list immediately.
ARRIVAL: We arrived promptly at the start of our reservation time at 7pm and were seated almost immediately. The hosts at the front desk were kind enough to ask about any dietary restrictions, as well as allergens.
SEATING: Our party of 12 noticed we were sat in the middle of the restaurant, no where near the front stage. We didn't mind at all and slowly after we we were seated, the tables around us were filled rather quickly.
ORDERING: The server introduced himself as Kevin and was quick to offer us a bottle of champagne. He stated to my sister (the bride, whose bachelorette we were celebrating) that they would not perform a show for her/provide sparklers unless a bottle was purchased. So we opted for the small one. Finally, we ordered dinner around 7:30/7:35pm and to our dismay, our food did not arrive for 1.5hr.
SERVICE: I will not spare any words for the "manager"/"supervisor." After calling attention to the delay in our meals, we pointed out that other tables who were sat after us were already being served their entrees. The manager said that they were waiting for the show in order for our food to be served but that statement made no sense at all. When the food finally came out, orders were undercoooked or did not come out the end.
When pointing this out to the manager, he made one of our guests literally mix her risotto, claiming she was supposed to do that for it, I guess, magically make the risotto less hard (lmao). Then they refused to take it back because she "ate half of it" and it required us to flag him down again to take it back to the kitchen..............and when it came back it was the exact same texture. So, just because you re-plate it and put it under the warmer--it doesn't make it better.
Also, if you're wondering how we knew the risotto was ass, it was because another one of our girls ordered a vegetarian risotto which had the perfect texture.
Back to the manager--he was unapologetic, manipulative, and rude when we brought these issues up. He refused to remove the undercooked risotto off ofthe tab and offered us shots (w/ a show) or a bottle of champagne. Then said "I'll be honest..." several times, claiming the shots were a better deal because the value was more $$$ than the champagne.
After going back and forth, he gave up and helped another table behind me and proceeded to send us the shots. THESE SHOTS were literally juice + sugar. At this point, I was so irritated with him because he made physical contact with me by tapping my shoulder and saying he couldn't compromise + just to take the shots. Members of our party also got involved and it ended with us just paying the bill with no tip.
THE BILL: After reviewing the bill, we noticed they upcharged us for several items such as the skinny margaritas (charged top shelf alc prices), ribeye steak, and tacos.
CONCLUSION: LOL I wouldn't come here again and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you're a...
Read moreDon’t waste your time or money here. The ambiance and shows might be picturesque but the service is HORRIFIC. DISHONEST TO THE POINT OF CRIMINAL. Absolutely shameful and disgusting scam operation that near ruined our bachelorette party’s last night in Cabo.
First, we were seated for almost 3 hours before they FINALLY brought our food out — and we were the first party there. The server Kevin offered us “free” guacamole and chips “on the house” for the food being late, but we ended up being charged TWICE for the guacamole for $45 total. JUST for guacamole. When later asked by the manager to confirm that Kevin had offered the guac for free, he lied and said he didn’t remember saying that —— even though four of us clearly remembered him saying that.
When the food finally arrived, the RISOTTO was gritty and undercooked, so we sent it back to be redone. As we ate, people in our parties literally still had food up in their mouths and massiveportions left, but the busser Alejandro came around and rushed removing the plates without checking in that we were finished. He also kept spilling things on our seats or behind us and splashing onto our dresses. So much food and money wasted on this aspect alone.
Somebody dropped and shattered a glass near our table, and the manager kicked it aside to rush through the busy service time without informing my friend that it was under her foot, and we had to ask ourselves to have it cleaned up. They didn’t bother to put up a caution sign or inform our table and put us at risk of getting cut.
They didn’t have the lobster tacos and offered me short rib tacos without mentioning that it would be THREE times the price of my original order. WHAT????
They also kept refilling our waters UNSOLICITED, and charged us $80 for 7 bottles of Evian on the bill.
We also missed the show because our food came out late, and we were preoccupied with eating and the servers bustling around us to even see it or enjoy it.
We informed the manager that we were unhappy with our service, and he ended up offering us either free shots or a bottle of champagne. The shots that were offered as compensation were pretty much pineapple juice mixers with a splash of tequila — and he ended up charging us for that too anyways.
The manager was the WORST. He was extremely rude with my sister who was rightfully disputing these BS charges on the bill, then even threatened to have security take us out after telling us “nothing makes you happy!” We asked for his name for the reviews, but he lied that he had already told us twice, then turned his back on us to talk to the table behind us. Worst of all, he was inappropriately hands-on with my sister touching her shoulder during negotiation and smacking it as he walked away after bullying her into accepting the bill...
