Umai Sushi — Restaurant in Baja California

This place was way better earlier, maybe a year ago, but it never was quite up to USA sushi standards - never had the soy sauce and Wasabi serving trays, and they cut the Nigiri into half's so they fall apart when you pick them up - a cardinal sushi sin. It seems like the owners or the chefs or a combination of them both have never been to a sushi place with a Japanese chef or staff - almost unbelievable considering the amazing choices just a hop, skip, jump (few hour wait) across the border.

Tonight the hot sake was lukewarm - the worst temperature of any drink - and the menu hadn't changed in over a year. I remember the food being much better, but overall, the fish is too thinly cut and they put way too much rice. Overall, Umai scams local Playas Mexicans who don't know the difference and Ex-Pats who don't have another choice. Go across the border or go find something in the center. I have never given a place 1star in Mexico. I got food poisoning here. The food tasted good, great presentation, good service, but later at night and the next day I experienced chills, itching, stomach ache, stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, dizziness.

I am covid negative and did not have a fever(36.3 C).
