Pros: -Great food -Authentic -Great prices! -Great location. Cons: None we could see or feel! Synopsis: We (my wife and our friends) wanted to try some good Mexican food while on holiday and the concierge at our hotel Riu, recommended Taco y Tequila. I think there are two of these locations so we went to the one closest, in the party zone. Its a beautiful newer restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and drinks accompanied by VERY reasonable prices! The value is awesome. Being on a vacation budget, we looked for casual dining spots with a good vibe and good food, and we got it here! The place was pretty busy when we walked in, but got a seat right away. We started with fried cheese which was awesome, and then different salsas with chips (free), and the guacamole was outstanding! The classic Limon Margarita that I had was one of the best I had tasted in Cancun. My wife had strawberry margarita which was frosty, cold and tasty. The 3 tacos we had each to follow (pibil and steak and shrimp) were delicious, and totally authentic. The flavours were delicious, and the service was top notch. The desserts we had were churros (excellent) and the Flan was sooo good! If you want value, great food and casual dining, this is a place we would recommend. The pricing at Taco Tequila is better than any casual dining place we went while on holiday. The vibe is great. Most casual dining places in Cancun we went to were overpriced and the food and service wasn't that great. I would highly recommend this place and next visit in Cancun we will...
Read moreWe were walking by and of course was pulled inside just like all the vendors try to do. They got me with saying it was happy hour buy one get one drink free and that it was all fresh fruit. I decided to give it a try and was so happy I did. We were greeted immediately and our order taken with in 3 min. The establishment is super clean, from the kitchen to the bathrooms and everything in between I was impressed. People cooking were wearing hair nets and everything very sanitary. I ordered a watermelon margarita to start, and my free drink was a kiwi margarita. When I tell you it had fresh fruit….. it’s was almost a dinners worth in the cup of the freshest fruits. They immediately brought out free chips and 3 different kinds of salsa as well. We watched as food came out of the kitchen and the portions were huge and looked amazing! Our server, Hansel, was so good. He explained everything as it came out, was super personable, just genuine nice person that was fantastic at his job. We didn’t wait 2 min for him to be right back over offering more stuff or cleaning up the table. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Cancun. The staff, the facilities, and the product all far exceeded my expectations. I walked out of there paying less that 50 bucks for 4 strong drinks and chips and salsa. We will definitely be back. Thank you Hansel for giving us such a great experience! You are an asset...
Read moreI have to say, I'm not the one to go back to the same place while on vacation as I love experiencing new places, but wow, Taco y Tequila made me change my habits.
I am writing this review after our second visit (and last night in Cancun 🥲).
We had great service (thanks Hansell for being very helpful and ensuring our experience was the way it turned out 🙏🏼).
Birria is famous for a reason! It's super delicious, I would definitely recommend it. Burritos are also good. Their large margarita cocktails are amazing and a good value.
The only thing that I would prefer if it was different (from the first time we came), large beer came with ice in it, which is something we hadn't seen before and it wasn't great, it ended up watering the beer down. I would prefer if they asked whether we want ice in it. This time we didn't get beer so absolutely to complain about!
Bonus points for the chill and relaxing atmosphere among the bustling loud bars and clubs around. Great place to have a conversation or just wind down.
