Mayan Monkey Cancún — Hotel in Cancún

I absolutely LOVE Mayan Monkey! I am a 57 grandmother and even though the opportunity for partying is there, I can come here and work in the work room, go to bed early if I want, or party and dance my ass off. The views are perfect on the lagoon for gorgeous sunsets! Across the road, you have the most beautiful beaches!

The food at the restaurant is perfect with great tasting VEGAN items! I highly recommend the vegan Enfrijoles!

The service is amazing!

Yoga on the beach is perfect! The live music is incredible! The vibe is kind and fun! Beds are comfy!

This is my 3rd visit from Vail, Colorado area within 7 months! Now....off to another Mayan Monkey!!

• I just came back from my 4th long stay (never long enough) at Mayan Monkey in November 2024! I can't compliment this hostel enough! I have zero complaints! I was so thrilled to see the amazing server, Christian still there, after my not having been there in over 1.5 years, who is a genuine and incredible assest to this business!! The new manager seems very attentive and treats guest amazingly. Miguel....what a pleasure to have had him serve breakfast and I felt an instant friendship with him! He is a temporary employee, and I will miss him on my next visits! Dave...that man is so dedicated to helping people with tours and puts in an unbelievable amount of hours on duty! Immanuel.... what a hard-working and guest service extrodinaire also!! Last but definitely NOT least is my precious new friend who is the current yoga, etc volunteer! She is love and light brightly and yoga on the beach with her was great! This business and all guests are beyond blessed to be in these employees presence! Thank you Mayan Monkey friends for making this ol girl feel loved and respected and protected! For those going to Cancun.....don't miss this place and tell Christian that you heard it from Paula! 😃 His smile is magical! Really ...all of them are!

This place is modern, clean, fun, and a fabulous melting pot for many nations!

I have only stayed at a few hostels and I can't imagine the location of any hostel being this nice and this close to the most gorgeous beach, best food, and a spectacular 3 story grocery store, but I have stayed at many resorts and hotels in this world and the service and amenities do not compare to what Mayan Monkey in Cancun has!

Just go there and please remember to tip your servers even when you have taken advantage of your discounted prepaid breakfast offer online or at check in!!!

The rooms are cozy yet spacious, offering a comfortable place to rest after a long day of exploring. Secure Lockers (Bring Your Own Lock!): Another great feature is the large lockers provided for each guest. They’re big enough to store all your belongings, which is a huge plus for travelers with larger backpacks. Just remember to bring your own lock to keep your items secure.

Smooth Check-In Process: Checking in was a breeze. The staff at the front desk were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable, making the entire process quick and hassle-free. They also provided great tips on local attractions, restaurants, and nightlife.

Wild Crocodiles by the Lagoon: One of the most unexpected and thrilling experiences was spotting wild crocodiles in the lagoon next to the hostel. Seeing these magnificent creatures during the day was a unique and unforgettable adventure that added a touch of excitement to my stay. It’s a rare experience that you won’t find at just any hostel!

I love to travel and I’ve stayed in hostels in The U.S., East and Southern Asia and Europe. This is by far the most expensive place I’ve been, but the service, rooms, and overall experience do not justify the high price. If you’re able, I suggest you just spend the extra money to get a hotel room.

The service was the worst part of my stay. I arrived after a long and arduous journey through and from the nightmarish Cancun airport. I was exhausted and just wanted to get to my bed, but had to wait in line at the front desk for 20 minutes just to speak to the only person working. Then the check-in took an additional 15 minutes for some reason. When I went to the room someone was in the bed I was assigned, so I had to get a new bed in a different room. Then the card for that room didn’t work, so I had to get a new card.

The type people who stay here are certainly the worst group I’ve ever encountered in any hostel. So many loud and inconsiderate people seem to have no regard for basic etiquette or manners. People came in to the room at 2:30AM and had loud s3x, that was unbelievable. Worst than that was the fact that when I tried to report them, Belen said there was nothing she could do and that I should have come down in the middle of the night in my PJs if I wanted to report them. What kind of hostel doesn’t enforce rules? They have written they’ll charge someone $5 for using an extra bed, but they didn’t even check who was using my originally assigned bed. So if you want a HUGE discount, you can just book for one person and have them save a bed for another person and then it will be free (or $5 if they decide to enforce the rules that day). Belen also wouldn’t get our luggage for us out of the (overpriced) storage when I needed to grab something I’d forgotten it my suitcase. She was entirely unhelpful.

Overall, this place is an overpriced and uncomfortable stay. I’d recommend...
