The pros: beautiful location great snorkeling and friendly wait staff. The cons: be careful of the 'friendly wait staff' overcharging! Ordered a 3 taco app (270 pesos) and 3 XX Ambers (100 pesos each) for my family. Waiter asked if we wanted a "large". I said sure. Figuring it would be something like double size, double the price... Food was average quantity average taste but no complaints. The Ambers came in a tall hourglass plastic looking thing. At the end got our bill and it was 1400 pesos before tip??? I thought maybe that plastic glass thing held 3 or more Ambers in each (even thought it didn't seem that big) so I paid, tipped and final bill came to 1700 pesos. He gave us the plastic hourglass thing the beers came in.
We then spent an hour near the snorkel area and overheard a lovely couple next to us question their bill. I admittedly eavesdropped and at the end we asked them what happened and he said they were overcharged for what they ordered. Hmmm..
So I just got back to the resort in Cancun and measured how much was actually in the plastic cup thing our beers were in. Almost exactly fit 2 standard 355ml beers! So essentially we got majorly overcharged for a 'large'. My bad for not asking and trusting the waiter that the price would be proportional to a single beer. The beach club clearly takes advantage of their guests so visitors beware. We will not be returning to this beach club. Very unethical. That is a shame considering the potential...
Read moreA lot to say here. Lets start with the food. We ordered two steak and shrimp fajitas and I can immediately tell that the proteins were sitting for a bit before serving. When we got our food, the steak and shrimp was borderline overcooked while the vegetables were basically raw. The onions and bell pepper were still crunchy and the onion was still spicy from being undercooked. The drinks were alright at best and I would say the entertainment was medicore. I won't talk much about the entertainment since that's somewhat out of their control. The real problem came when we were ready to pay. The server came with the bill with the price written over the price printed on the receipt. He told us that the price wasn't with the tip but the price seemed very high compared to what we have estimated. When we tried to look at our bill, he kept moving it away from us and billed us 290 pesos over what we calculated. We assumed that it was just the included tip but then he told us tip wasn't included. So we had to tip him again. I think what made us most uncomfortable was that the server constantly stood next to us and kept the bill hidden with his hand whenever we tried to look. Please if you do decide to go here, demand to look at your receipt and don't have to tip 40 percent...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend went here for drinks- 2 5ft females with no males. The bartender was nice when we first arrived. We ordered a well tequila and a well vodka. The bartender left behind the bar and came up behind us to serve us our drinks (we were still sitting at the bar). We did not see him make these and we’re concerned about them being spiked. We sat there for maybe 15 minutes before we left a $20 and then he came up to us and demanded $35 saying we ordered grey goose and patron- which we did not. I said no, I’m not paying this, gave him the $20 and began walking out. He chased us down the street and stood in front of my girlfriend, I grabbed her arm and pulled her out of his way. He went to grab another man who came to stop us- no joke. The other man was trying to shame us and said we shouldn’t be running out on a tab and my girlfriend explained the situation and he told us we should have stayed and “figured this out”. I said “We gave you more than what 2 wells cost, you are trying to charge us for something we did not order and we still aren’t paying this”. I grabbed my girlfriends arm and we started walking again and then walked back to the restaurant. Do not go out in Mexico alone if you look vulnerable because these people WILL try...
