Owner is an angry little man. Recently dined at this so called "Italian." The minestrone soup was water with some sort of unidentifiable stock, roughly chopped vegetables and soggy noodles. The "owner and chef" is self acclaimed Italian and how he passes this off as authentic Italian is beyond myself. The lasagna was bleak. My fellow diner enjoyed his gazpacho starter after a 30 minute wait. And after a further 20 minutes I received both courses simultaneously. We complained that that the steak which was ordered was well done which we asked for rare, and covered in a sludge sauce which closely resembled old engine oil. At this point I hadn't pointed out the low quality of the soup which I didn't eat. The owner then came over to ask to replace the dish but we declined due to the long wait and just wanted to pay for what we ate. The owner then called my friend weird and came over very aggressively blaming my friend for the mistake because "the waiters speak another language from English" which would be valid if my friend hadn't ordered in Spanish... I then complained at which point he left in a fit of childish anger. To then return, slam the table and say "you pay all" we then protested and at which point he pressed his head against my friends while 4/5 waiters run from the back to the owners side and at which point we said we would call the police if their was an issue realizing he had other customers he disappeared like Houdini again. And miraculously appeared again from thin air and told us to leave and we complied. As we were walking down the street he came running from being shouting insults. When I turn to him he comes face to face aggressively and decides to walk himself back to the restaurant and then sneak attacked my friend, throwing a punch which he missed and was pushed away at which point his goons joined him being aggressive. The situation was in the end diffused without further physical aggression. So summing up: angry little man who thinks he runs a gang, "food" which honestly you can barely call it that and service which takes so long I can honestly say my hair started greying. Avoid at all costs their are street carts much cheaper that provide higher quality food. If I could give minus stars I...
Read moreI've been in San Cristóbal with my wife for 5 days, and after the first Mexican food encounter in Mexico City we needed some home flavours as I was sick because the Montezuma curse hitted me very hard, and I couldn't stand tacos and guacamole for a while.
We found Alessandro's place by chance and usually we are very suspicious about Italian restaurant abroad as sometime the only Italian part is the name.
GUYS believe me, the best place in town.
We live in London so is not easy to find good Italian food even in the great capital, but here everything is handmade with love and you can actually really feel the flavour of everything. The cure of a great filled pasta ravioli, elaborated but never heavy fish pasta sauce and the best filet meat I haven't try in while, all prepared and presented in a great way. Alessandro the owner and chef, made us feel like at home straight away, gave us the best tips for the food of course, but also for everything else (he actually has a great experience in Mexico and it worth listen his advises). We went to his restaurant twice in a row, but just because the other days we were busy with tour. Every time we tried something different and every time it was amazing. From the most simple Ravioli with spinach and ricotta cheese to the spaghetti with pistacchio pesto and tomato everything was and explosion of flavour, the desserts are unforgivable.
We were so into the food the last time that we almost lost our plane in Tuxla, thank you Alessandro you saved also our holiday.
The staff is also great, kind and efficient and the overall price is totally under the average for the quality and the location.
To conclude, this place is a must do visit if you pass in San Cristóbal, if you are foreigner, Mexican or whatever and you love great food and Italian mood.
We are glad we found a new friend in Mexico. Thank you Alessandro for everything.
