Food was fine. The service was very poor- incredibly slow, and appeared to be plenty of waiters. We ordered guacamole and chips with beer and margarita as soon as we sat down, and then looked at menu.
(Upon ordering, we learned they were out of the special they said was tuna, which was disappointing. But that’s to be expected. It was fairly late- only a couple tables filled when we arrived.
It took forever - plus asking to get the guacamole. (I actually saw the waiter coming towards us and suddenly remember!) It was yummy but a small portion.
It took over half an hour after guac arrived (timed) after they had finally brought our food. So close to an hour for the entree. My grilled dorado was quite good. The chicken fajita was quite ordinary, not bad, but not great. The herbed butter they brought with bread was very good!!
Meal was fine. But as we felt ignored (and were very hungry), and the wait made the dinner not so enjoyable.
Atmosphere was pleasant. We sat outdoors in the “street”. Waiter had “offered” table against building on sidewalk but took one in the street thinking it would be breezier. (Wasn’t thrilled to eat with the vendors/kids and a beggar stopping by each table. The guitar player who stopped by was very good so there’s a plus!)
PS I think this sounds whiny. We’ve just had such good meals at little places, so between the positive reviews and other experiences we had, this was disappointing.
It’s prob a 3.5 but wouldn’t be a place I’d go again. You might love...
Read moreOur first visit to Agave did not disappoint. We got there at opening- it was clean and we were welcomed so hospitably. We had a margarita on the rocks and a Vicki. The margarita was excellent, not too sweet and plenty of tequila. For starter we had the octopus carpaccio. It was delicious. Perfectly balanced flavors and beautifully minced up herbs...we also had some delightful warm bread with a compound vegetable herb butter. I wanted to take it home with me so I could eat it on more things! For dinner, we had the Mahi fillet and the Shrimp Scampi. I was too excited to wait for a good picture and tore into my food before the pictures. It was really savory and flavorful. The scampi was excellent. He literally had to take my bowl so I couldn’t lick it. Haha. It was divine. Perfectly seasoned, al dente spaghetti and plump fresh shrimp. For dessert, we shared a piece of flan. It had beautiful strawberries and fresh mint and was fabulous. We could barely finish it! But you know we don’t waste food. We managed to get that last bite. For the quality of the food and service, this is an exceptional restaurant in downtown Zihua. The prices are incredibly reasonable. You can tell they love what they do and take pride in the quality and content of their craft. Take your time, enjoy your meal and see a totally...
Read moreDelicioso comida y muy amable. After the complimentary, warm bread and yummy butter, I had the guacamole with chips that were fresh and warm, spinach salad with apples, tomatoes, nuts and cheese and a yummy dressing and the brownie with ice cream for dessert (unfortunately I left my phone charging on our nightstand so no pictures). Everything was fresh and simply wonderful. In addition, I asked for chicken soup to go for my friend because she was sick and they gave me one of their bowls with the promise to return it. My friend was so very thankful!...
