Hello everyone, We have been on Isla Mujeres for 7 days now. We have tried all restaurants on this island. The Sunset Grill is the best one so far out of all of them because how fresh and tasty their food is. Don’t let the appearance of the restaurant inside fool you, its a family owned business and inside looks very homely and not very decorated, beautiful children run around, but, there is a veranda on the outside of the restaurant that overlooks the ocean and it is beatiful when dining while you are surrounded by this view. The old man who is the owner of this restaurant, perhaps, is the sweetest person on earth. He comes to the table and offers all possible comfort you can get. He made us shrimp cocktail with tortillas while they were still opening the kitchen ( we got there one hour early and he still took us in), it was so delicious, my sister and I almost drank the juice out of it after we ate all the shrimp (she used all tortillas to finish the juice but I also almost drank the juice it was so good). Than we had a stuffed chicken with spinach and cheese, seafood stew, french fries, and espresso coffee. This was our second visit there. Their Shrimp Chipotle is out of this world, it is so delicious and fresh, its mind-blowing. On the whole island, no one knows how to prepare lobster well, they overcook it and its chewy and tough. Sunset Grill’s lobster was stuffed with cheese and other ingredients, but it was not as soft as it should be, but it was still the better lobster than anywhere on the island. Their drinks a good, like everywhere else. Salad was delicious and fresh. We ate shrimp soup, it was so good. I think more people should go to this place so that it can thrive. Most people go to the center of Isla Mujeres where it’s all commercialised and has no quality at all. This please is not in the center, it’s on the side of the main road and maybe not many people notice it right away, but, I absolutely encourage everyone to try this place out! They are...
Read moreGreat seafood at a reasonable, competitive price. One of the best views on the island for a romantic sunset dinner! We ate here twice during our stay in Isla and enjoyed the food both times.
The first dinner was good, fish dishes were a bit pricey considering the portion size and accompanying sides, but packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. The crab appy presentation didn't blow us away and we got nothing to put it on, but it was still really good and didn't take away from the experience.
Our second dinner was the lobster thermidor and paella which was unreal! I feel like if you spring for the more expensive dishes you get a lot more bang for your buck, and a little bit more attention. That plus a bottle of wine came to much less than we were expecting (even with the CAD conversion) and we left with full bellies and happy hearts!
The owner Felipe and his wife Margarita are very friendly and will come and check on you often. Their adorable son will be found somewhere around being entertained by staff or whoever else wants to amuse him. Never heard him cry once in 10 days staying up above the restaurant for our Air BNB.
Felt very family oriented and would definitely eat here again for a nice fancy seafood dinner! An overall...

4 for the appetizers, 2 for the entrees, averages out to a 3
We came to Sunset grill for the night of Christmas as we wanted something more upscale. It’s a little bit of a hike from where we were staying but it’s on the water which is always nice. It’s clearly family-run as the husband and wife are there taking your order and asking if you need anything.
The appetizers were delicious...I had the lobster quesadilla which came with a delicious chipotle sauce. I would definitely order that again.
For our entree, my sister and I shared the grilled flank steak special and the seafood parade. Unfortunately, the steak was over cooked and dry, the beans that came with it were dry, and the guacamole was nothing special. They garnished the plate with paprika to try and make it look fancy but it really didn’t serve a purpose which I didn’t appreciate. The seafood parade was good but not great. Not the kind of seafood to write home about. For an upscale restaurant like this, I was hoping for more precision in how things were cooked. I don’t think I’ll be coming back but I wish...
