Culinary Disappointment: A German Chef's Perspective
Being from Germany and a seasoned German chef, I recently had the opportunity to try a local restaurant's take on German cuisine. I approached the experience with high expectations, but unfortunately, my culinary journey left much to be desired.
Firstly, as a German chef, I couldn't help but give the overall experience a rating of 3, though a 2 would have been a more accurate reflection of the deviation from authentic German culinary standards. I understand the limitations of replicating the exact taste outside of Germany, but the food I encountered resembled that of an average German housewife rather than meeting the expected standard.
The specific dish that I ordered, the Wiener Schnitzel, turned out to be a major disappointment. As a chef, I appreciate the art of cooking to perfection, and unfortunately, this was lacking in my chosen dish. The Wiener Schnitzel was undercooked, at least in my humble opinion. This flaw not only affected the taste but also raised concerns about the overall quality and attention to detail in the kitchen.
Reflecting on the experience, it's clear that restaurants with this level of authenticity and culinary execution wouldn't survive in Germany. As much as I wanted to explore and enjoy a taste of home, the deviation from genuine German flavors and the disappointing preparation of the Wiener Schnitzel have led me to the decision that I will not be returning to this establishment.
In the world of culinary exploration, finding a true taste of home can be challenging, and this experience serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining authenticity, even when attempting to recreate beloved...
Read moreThe food was just okay, as was the service. The real problem was the attitude of the owner. I was not served the meal that I ordered but I didn't want to send it back and cause that kind of a problem so I went ahead and ate it. But when I mentioned it to the owner, he suggested I should go ahead and pay the higher price because I ate it. But he knew that I didn't order it and still wanted me to pay the difference. I told him no, that I wasn't going to do that and I was going to pay for the meal that I ordered, and I thought I was doing them a favor by not sending the complete meal back, but he got really nasty right away, and told me, fine, but don't ever come back here. It was only a small difference in price so they didn't lose any significant amount of money. I told him no worries, I would definitely not return, and walked out. I was so surprised and really rather shocked at his completely inconsiderate and...
Read moreThis was the 2nd time we visited. We enjoyed goulash and weiner schnitzel the first time. This 2nd time we split a lamb dish grilled with potatoes, cabbage and sauerkraut. It was tender and delicious. I remembered coming here many years ago but don't remember much about it. Talking with the owner Rodigo he said he had been here more than 20 years. Now I see why. Offer very good food at reasonable prices while everywhere else they have increased to the point you stay home more often. The fact owners stay in business so long is a testament to good food, quality, affordable and toughness....especially surviving covid and the ups and downs of the restaurant business. We will be regulars we told Rodigo. I would make a suggestion that they offer a little better red wine by the glass to go with their delicious...
