I went early for dinner. 4 pm so the restaurant would not be overwhelmed on this Saturday. The people were very nice. It saddens me to give a 2 star rating. I will explain and hope it was just a bad day, because it seems people like this restaurant. I was not sure if I wanted a steak or the mixed seafood with a spicy red sauce pasta. They only had New York and Filet Mignon. I normally compare a restaurant's cook by their Ribeye. I ask the person taking my order if the had a Ribeye, just in case I missed it on the menu. He told me that it was OK, they were out of New York and had Ribeye steak. I could not decide if I wanted the yummy Ribeye or the healthy mixed seafood. I ask which one he recommended. He recommended the Ribeye. I ordered the Ribeye (I could be healthy when I got back home, LOL). I received my steak, it was a New York cut. As you may know, Ribeyes are softer (marbling) New York is tougher. I was sad since I do not like New York cut, otherwise I would have ordered it. I do not know if he was miss informed but I am sure the cooks would have told him. I have had another steak house do the same thing to me, we just do not go there any more. Not sure if they think people do not know the different cuts of meat or what. I also was surprised that the bread was not flavorful. I bake bread at home and so know it was due to the lack of salt . I am guessing just flour and yeast. And while the bread was cooked, it tasted raw, I am guessing lack of salt but I did not expect it to affect the texture. My wife ordered the shrimp scampi. She did not read the menu all the way and was expecting pasta. It came with mashed potatoes. The server saw she was surprised/disappointed. He asked what was wrong. She replied that she was expecting pasta. He asked if she wanted him to get her some pasta? She replied yes please. He came back with the pasta, scampi style. So nice of him. I think the chef was rushed to get her pasta out. It was not reduced and the sauce tasted like pure lemon juice. My daughter's margarita pizza was good. I did love the Watermelon Agua Fresca. I hope it just an off day. So many people love the place. We have visited several steak restaurants like Ajijic Tango and even Original Tony's restaurant. Fantastic grilled Ribeye steaks at those locations....
Read moreWe live in Guadalajara and are entertaining out of town friends. We stayed at a beautiful Botique hotel walking distance to Scallion. When we drove past it looked lively and we chose to dine there. Lively it is. Nice band and dance area inside the restaurant. The local expats were there on their Friday night out enjoying drinks and dancing. Nice vibe. The menu is extensive with nice variety of food. Our sever was with no personality and struggled in English and our Spanish. My younger wife joined us later and his demeanor changed and was much more attentive and helpful than prior. The food was served in a ice presentation but everything. Lacked flavor or was over cooked. We started with the calamari and nachos. The nachos were good but the calamari was over cooked and chewy. The margarita were weak and required another shot of tequila to taste like a margarita. I had an old fashion but was just eh prepared quickly. We switched to Pinot Grigio and it was good. Looking around everyone was drinking wine so maybe a wine joint. We order wagyu burgers which were frozen patty’s. Very bland and not good. Another ordered fire oven pizza but not sure of the fire oven. Crust was doughy and bland.
I’d suggest this place for drinks and dancing. The prices were good for style food. If you are looking for nice place for food and service I can’t recommend based on our experience. But hey maybe we are just spoiled with all the great service and awesome food in...
Read moreLast night we met up with some friends and had dinner at Scallion Ajijic Bistro . We arrived just before the rain. It was our 1st time there. We were greeted by Gabriel(hopefully spelled correctly) which was our waiter. They were really having to shuffle everyone from outside to inside with the heavy rains. I had the Fried Calamari which was perfectly cooked with a nice Thai dipping sauce. Mom had the General Tso Shrimp which was delicious. Shrimp were a nice size, fried crisp and coated with a tangy General Tso style sauce. I had a a few bites and it was really good(obviously I'd like it spicier). I had the chicken Marsala. The chicken breast were very tender and well seasoned. I really enjoyed the red cabbage with this dish. The mushrooms and sauce were very well done but for me I'd like a little more of a Marsala flavor so a little more wine(That's just my preference). One of our friends got a pizza and it looked amazing, well cooked with a good sauce to crust ratio. All of the food came out timely even though there was alot going on with the rain. It was obvious that the team was well managed. Plates were decorative and attractive as well as the staff. I thought the pricing was also pretty good as I had multiple Cadillac Margaritas and shots, 2 of us had appetizers, and dinner for 4 was under 1900pesos. We would definitely go back...
