It was New Year's Eve. They seated us in an area that was away from the main part of the restaurant, sort of down a corridor that ran to nowhere along the edge of the building. It was cold and very drafty, a bit of a wind tunnel, actually. I'm a Canadian, naturalized Mexican citizen, and I have lived here for 25 years, I know it gets cold at night, so I brought my faux blue fox full-length coat, and I was fine. My friend from Oregon only had a shawl, and while they did have gas heaters, she was very cold. It was also very noisy due to a speaker right above us. I was not at all impressed with the 2nd class seating arrangements. The area where they sat us is out of the way of the main restaurant and very drafty. A family of about 8 were seated next to us, and they left around 11 pm, likely because they were cold. They looked cold. Service was sporatic, probably because we were not in the main part of the restaurant. We wanted to try the fusion wontons, but they were out of them by 10 pm. Poor planning on the part of the kitchen. The menu wasn't particularly interesting, so we tried some appetizers. The sea bass tacos in black tempura were not very good. They were soggy and just not special. The tuna sashimi with avocado tostada was nice, once again, pretty average but pleasant. Now, the meat empanada was melt in your mouth sabroso and really excellent. Kudos on the empanada. My friend doesn't drink and I was hoping to order a half bottle of Veuve Cliquot, I have found half bottles in Mexico before, but they had no half bottles of anything and they had no champaign for sale by the glass - on New Years Eve. We were served a glass of Moët Chandon at midnight. That was a nice touch. Would I go back? No, not even if I had a better table. The menu just wasn't that inspiring ... though that beef empanada was really stellar. It was an OK experience. I'm glad I wore my coat!

Nice place but it has its downs. We ordered several dishes to share and be able to try different things. Tiradito de atún, queso panela dorado, guacamole mamucas and the for main dishes: pescado al carbon (robalo), chamorro a la cerveza y costilla de res al barro; this last one was burnt and dry. The cocktails were really good (mezcal and tequila based) The service is good, but sometimes we felt the server needed some training to not interrupt conversations. The dessert was wonderful, vary tasty and creative. We ordered a pan de elote with ice cream that was really great. Around $70 per person.

I had the opportunity to dine at Mantela Brasa for New Year's, and while the food was enjoyable, I must express my disappointment with the service. Our experience took a downturn when, after finishing our meal, we left our drinks on the table to step out for a smoke. Despite informing our server about our brief absence and requesting that our drinks be safeguarded until our return, we found the table entirely cleared upon our comeback. It was evident that there was a lack of communication among the staff.

Seeking resolution, we approached the manager, who claimed the server had already informed him and that our drinks were being remade. However, when the drinks arrived, they were noticeably weak; my bottle of Evian water was substituted with a generic brand. Even more disheartening was the replacement of Moet champagne with a subpar sparkling wine that lacked the quality we expected. When I inquired about my missing champagne glass, I was told it was complimentary and no longer available. After expressing my dissatisfaction, they presented a half-empty sparkling glass with no bubbles.

The overall experience soured at the end due to a mismanagement of a simple mistake. While the intention to rectify the situation was evident, the execution fell short, leaving a bitter taste in what could have been an otherwise enjoyable evening. Properly addressing issues is crucial, and unfortunately, this aspect of service was lacking during our visit to...
