Proyecto Cafe — Restaurant in Jalisco

I love Proyecto. It's such a chill and comfortable place to have a relaxing meal or a snack. I have been several times and the things that definitely keep drawing me back is their bagel sandwich with serrano ham (pro tip: order it with cream cheese to make it even more delicious!) and their carrot cake. Full disclosure, I am a chef and owned my own bakery so I can be very picky about my baked goods. I am usually disappointed but I was so pleasantly surprised when I tried their carrot cake.

When they brought it out I was dubious because it didn't look like traditional carrot cake, which is typically very moist and dense. Theirs looked more like a regular sponge style cake, fluffy and not wet. But tradition went out the window with my first bite! The flavor is so complex, sweet with a pleasant vegetal flavor. I think there may also be zucchini in it. All of that topped with the perfect amount of tangy cream cheese frosting that was not a sugar bomb. I don't care if I never eat another traditional carrot cake in my life as long as I can come to Proyecto and have theirs with an excellent coffee, friendly servers, good music and...

Gave this place a try given the high review rating. Place had customers, but wasn't super busy (two other tables). The staff is rude, they aren't welcoming upon entering. They took a few minutes to come to the table to provide menus, and even longer to get our order. The attitude is poor when engaged. In reading some of the other negative posts, it was described as they are doing you a favor to serve you. That is exactly how it felt in my experience. The staff began arguing with another customer who inquired about her drink as it was taking long to receive after ordering. The food took a long time to come out. And it is average at best. In waiting for our orders, we ordered another coffee each. These were given in to-go cups???? Doesn't really make sense. After this terrible experience, in asking for the check, the staff rolled their eyes. She was bothered that we interrupted her while she scrolled through Facebook.

Believe the poor experiences posted. Spend your money at another establishment which would like to provide service, and you'll most likely get a better meal out of it too.

Coffee is...

I was in this place 2 weeks ago and iI thought it was a decent place to sit and do some work, so I went back today to have some lunch and was totally dissapointed. First, the waiters treat you as if they were doing you a favor and you were interruping their busy day (all of them are sitting around doing nothing, because there is no one else in the place). Had a mediocre panini with salad and a piece of metal covered in plastic a nice twist tie for free! When I pointed this to the waitress she didnt even say a word, she just took my plate and ignore me completely. Now i know why this place is always empty. I do not recommend this place at all, there are way many other better places in Vallarta and there is no need to put up with this kind...
