2025 UPDATED REVIEW: I went with a friend and tried the place again in March 2025. The chicken was much better. The elote (corn) side was great. The mash potatoes were good. Mushrooms were OK, but good. The solo acoustic guitar player was good as well. Only complaint this time is we sat at the bar and a server for a table kept cutting in between us to interact with the bartender. The server seemed like he was in training and the bartender gave us the look like they understood, so no big deal, teachable moments (hopefully) - I understand. No hard feelings.
Meal to share + 2 drinks = 1000 pesos (with food left over to take home (chicken and sides))
2024 UPDATED REVIEW:
Been back three more times for a total of about 6 visits. The food is not great anymore, even when the place is nearly empty. Soggy, greasy, unevenly seasoned, overcooked, undercooked, sloppy presentations. Previously the food had been crisp and fresh in our original two visits a year+ ago. In late 2023 through 2024 the staff attention has been very hit and miss. They seem to be having fun with each other at the expense of attention and service to the customers.
Not worth the price or the upset stomach afterward.
Also the chairs are not that comfortable. When you're waiting 10 minutes for service and another 30 minutes for food, it starts to become quite noticeable.
Positives: The place is pet friendly. Owner is very pleasant.
OLD REVIEW from 2023: Drinks were good. Salsas are great and accurate to the style. Probably one of the very few places to get bourbon in Puerto Vallarta. The fried chicken was great, the fried fish was good as well. The chicharrón puffs were standard pork rinds. The fried onion we're the kind of fried onion you get from a can. The thin strips not onion rings. Over all good food and good drinks. Friendly owner and her pup, Henry (or was it Harry?) Live music as well. Nice spot to have s strong drink and comfort food...
Read moreVery underwhelmed and disappointed by the entire Thanksgiving experience.
To begin, we were on time for our reservation, but were not seated for at least 15 minutes (could have been longer). Food was served before drink orders were taken. Apparently there was a small salad bar in the front that we were not informed about? Server took our drink order at minimum 1/4 way through the meal, could have been longer. Drinks finally arrived 3/4 way through the meal, and was definitely not what I ordered, and it was one of their signature cocktails. One of my table mates ordered a glass of Chardonnay, but they were sold out.
Despite the fact that I’ve heard nothing but great things about Whiskey Kitchens food, the food was mediocre at best, mostly bland, and I’m being very generous. I’m not a foodie and don’t eat out very often so I don’t have unreasonable expectations.
There was also a small dessert bar that we were also not informed about, that featured pumpkin pie and some sort of apple thing and the whole area was a mess. I had the Apple thing and it was ok.
Had things gone differently, I would have had a couple of glasses of wine with my meal and a special coffee with dessert, so the restaurant lost out on that revenue. I normally tip 20% in PV, but I tipped less than 10% because of the substandard service. Just The meal itself was $600 mxn, and no exaggeration, I’ve enjoyed exponentially better thanksgiving meals in PV for 50% less.
Full disclosure, last year I enjoyed their Nachos and they were fantastic and the portion was very generous. I’ve also had my preferred cocktail previously and it was awesome.
In summary, it was total breakdown and I feel like I...
Read moreVery disappointed! I was very excited to try this restaurant and perhaps based upon the reviews, went with too high of a expectation. We arrived around 5:10pm, right in time for happy hour. We were seated immediately and given a food menu and drink menu. No happy hour menu. I had to request that. I ordered the 2 for 1 cab from the happy hour menu (actually pointing to it on the menu) and the Smashtastic Butter Burger Cheeseburger without the roll from the regular menu. One glass of wine came out right away, and surprisingly was chilled and tasty. After about a half hour, I requested my second glass of wine. The food took an excruciating 40 or so minutes to arrive and honestly, in a word was terrible. The burger was supposed to be 360g of ground beef with pork, sautéed mushrooms, fried onion rings, bacon jam, lettuce, tomato and cheese. What I received was a burger patty that appeared to be 6 years old from the bottom of a freezer wrapped in a lettuce leaf. No mushrooms, onion rings, bacon jam, or tomato. By the grace of god, it had cheese. When we received the bill, I was charged for 2 glasses of wine. Not the happy hour price of 2 for 1. The waitress tried to tell me that I would have to have gotten both glasses at the same time. However, no one said that when I was ordering. After a bit of back and forth, she was gracious enough to remove the...
