My favorite place in Puerto Vallarta for a nice dinner out! Chef Memo is constantly changing up his menu based off what ingredients are in season and local. The food is always delicious and service is always great. When we first started visiting Barrio Bistro they were a very small restaurant. Chef Memo would always come out and explain his menu, written then on a rather large chalkboard. He would talk about where the ingredients came from, why he chose them and how he put them together. The experience was like no other I'd had before at a restaurant. And the food was so good that on several occasions I literally cleaned my plate of every drop of food. In fact my husband and I loved Memo, his philosophy, and food so much we asked him to cater our wedding in 2016. He made the experience the best of our whole wedding. When our friends and family talk about our wedding they always say how amazing the food experience was. On top of eating Cef Memo's food at our wedding, in the two weeks we were down in Puerto Vallarta around our wedding we took wedding guests to Barrio Bistro twice for dinner and each time was amazing! Chef Memo made it such a great experience for us, really taking the time to listen to our vision for the food at our wedding and using his skills and knowledge to create the best food experience possible for us Barrio Bistro has recently expanded to more than double their original size and now have a raicilleria bar attached. They served the best gin and tonic I have ever had. I'm so excited to see that as many people love Barrio Bistro as I do and hope that this review will make you check them out. Your missing out if you don't eat Chef Memo's food and experience his passion...
Read moreBarrio is a colorful restaurant with great drinks. However, it did not meet our taste.
We ordered some drinks to start, which were pretty tasty (pasion colada and charco de sol). To start, we received a small ceviche tostada as on the house appetizer. This was a very nice detail. It was tasty, but it didn't have a strong ceviche taste.
We ordered Mushrooms as an appetizer, they were really great! The portion size was more than decent, and they were really tasty! As the appetizer was great, we had high expectations for the main course.
We had fish with pesto and almonds and shrimps with pasta. Unfortunately, we did not like the main courses a lot. The fish (may be because of the type of fish) was very meaty and dry, the pesto with almonds was OK, however the steamed vegetables as sidedish was also not our favorite.
The shrimps with pasta reminded us of soup pasta with tomato sauce. It would have been better to have proper pasta like tagliatelle or something else. It felt a bit cheap, and it did not go great with the shrimps. The tomato sauce was really basic, it was just like a plain tomato sauce. The shrimps, however, were cooked great and very tasty.
They had live Latin music, which was great!
In general it is a nice colorful restaurant, with tasty drinks, well presented food, but in our opinion not very tasty, just ok.
We would only come back for drinks, the mushrooms again and the...
Read moreWe were staying around the corner at an Airbnb, very hungry and the rain was pouring. Walked past a few bars and someone from the pork place across the street (set to open next week) highly recommended this spot. The waiter called us in as we were approaching. Because of the rain, we were only one of two tables there. The drinks were good, but my girlfriend sent the first drink back (a margarita) because she didn’t like the taste. She then ordered the jaicama drink which was much better. The pescado al curry was spectacular - the cream sauce was delicious. The pad Thai appetizer, however, was very strange and too much sauce - almost soupy. It seemed like there was too much lime in the sauce and something bitter left a strange aftertaste. My girlfriend ordered the paella, which was just over seasoned. We agreed that the the real negative part was the pushy-ness of the waiter. He just kept trying to upsell us on desert and buying bottles of booze and we felt really awkward as he would just take a few steps away and basically watch us eat the whole time. We each ate only a little of our entrees before deciding to get the check. For what it was, the meal seemed a bit overpriced. Total was about MX$1500 (US$90) for two people: two entrees, one appetizer and 2 drinks (1 each). Overall we felt really...
