La Bottega Merida — Restaurant in Mérida

I hesitate to write a review if I cannot give 5 stars, usually I just leave and don't come back. However, I also rely on reviews when traveling and this place had so many favorable reviews that we relied on those to eat here. Specifically, the pizza was the primary issue. I have eaten enough freshly made and frozen pizzas in my life to know that what we were served was frozen pizza. The crust had the distinct flavor and texture of a frozen food service crust, and the cheese had the same flavor and look. I am certain that this was a frozen food service pizza slab that they just put some toppings on. We didn't bother to finish it. We also shared the mushroom ravioli with the bolognese sauce. The sauce was actually very good, but having figured out the pizza was frozen we just assumed the ravioli was the same. Too many other good restaurants nearby with fresh made pasta and pizza to bother. Service was decent, neither bad nor exceptional. Also, just an fyi on the wine by the bottle you need to add 200 pesos to the price as a corkage fee if dining in, it is listed at the very end of the extensive wine list, not sure why they don't add that into the price. ...

La Bottega is located right on the North end of Paseo de Montejo, across the street Is from hotel Victoria. They have a very ample indoor dining area, but also have a nice little area to sit and dine outside.

The food was excellent. The first time I ate there this week, they had empanadas that were to die for, and the 2nd time I ate there, I had one of the best bowls of fettuccine Alfredo that I've ever had!

A great spot right on the Paseo Montego.

The wine selection was unexpected. The waiter recommended a special which was perfect! A meat and cheese board with 2 glasses of wine. The fruits on the board were really juicy! The meats and cheeses were great! It came with bread too. Enough to fill us for dinner.

Service was great too! It was a lovely evening out.
