Quinta Montes Molina — Attraction in Mérida

Although this house is smaller than Montejo 495, I actually liked this one better. The rooms are more colorful and ornate and you can walk around on your own and you don't need to pay extra for cameras. However, I will say, I don't understand why they don't just leave the basement unlocked and then force you to exit through the giftshop. We walked through more quickly than the other group and were standing for 5 minutes next to a locked door, waiting in vein for the worker to let us out, only to eventually find out that the way out isn't the same as the way in. This should really be communicated better to visitors. Inside the house it's fine, but anywhere in the outdoor areas of the property, you constantly have staff harassing you over where you can and can't walk. The museum itself gets 5 stars, but the people who work the grounds completely ruin...

Take the time to stroll the beautiful avenue before stopping here for a leisurely tour. The house is lovingly maintained and appears as if the family just left for a stroll in 1912. It is amazing that the same family still owns the home and that a member still visits from time to time and, when doing so, stays in the home. Do not miss going to the basement and taking some time to admire what made the hosue run. If you are lucky, the gentleman grounds keeper will share some of his knowledge with you. Awesome...

This is a must if you are in Paseo Montejo or Mérida. The house has such a rich history, and they managed to salvage so many things, that it's like time traveling when you go in. You get to see how people lived during the splendor of Henequén times, and the tour is very well organized to ensure social distancing.
