We visited Fonda Margarita on a Thursday morning and arrived around 10:45 AM. Be prepared for a bit of a wait—we waited about 45 minutes for a table—but it’s worth it. The place is clean and has a charming, no-frills vibe.
The food here is truly something special. We were a bit disappointed that “Carnero en Verde” wasn’t available, but I opted for the chilaquiles with costilla instead. The sauce wasn’t your typical chilaquiles style—it was incredibly flavorful, well-seasoned, and not acidic at all. The frijoles refritos were absolutely delicious too, a perfect complement to the meal.

We got there around 9 am but there was already a line out the door. They seat you where there is room so you maybe sharing your table with the locals.
I think the true locals come early bc when we were there it was mostly tourists.

And chicharron in Verde salsa and the frijoles with huevos. My friend got eggs with ham. So flipping good. I would totally go back there if I went back to Mexico City.
They also have live music by the door. I honestly didnt hear much of it bc I was enamored...
