We visited Fonda Margarita on a Thursday morning and arrived around 10:45 AM. Be prepared for a bit of a wait—we waited about 45 minutes for a table—but it’s worth it. The place is clean and has a charming, no-frills vibe. The food here is truly something special. We were a bit disappointed that “Carnero en Verde” wasn’t available, but I opted for the chilaquiles with costilla instead. The sauce wasn’t your typical chilaquiles style—it was incredibly flavorful, well-seasoned, and not acidic at all. The frijoles refritos were absolutely delicious too, a perfect complement to the meal. At the end of our meal, we had the chance to chat with Ms. Margarita’s granddaughter, which added a lovely personal touch to the experience. Fonda Margarita is a fantastic spot for traditional Mexican breakfast, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic flavors.

Fonda Margarita completely blew me away—such an unassuming spot serving some of the best food I tasted in CDMX. The Chilaquiles were phenomenal, the best I've ever had, and the churro we shared was fantastic. The Café de Olla was also the absolute best of our entire stay. The atmosphere was incredible—authentic and vibrant, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with locals, listening to old-timers passionately debate weather and politics as a live band played behind us. We arrived early and initially sat separately due to limited seating, but we quickly got comfortable as spots opened up. Don't hesitate to visit; this kind of genuine, local experience feels like catching lightning in a bottle—it might not last forever. Highly recommended!

Expect lines to get in but the waiting time is pretty decent. There’s live music inside the venue. The tables are communal, usually seating around 12 people. Their menu is varied, they offer green chilaquiles, different types of eggs, and 5-6 meat or pork “guisados”. Not an option for vegans and limited for vegetarians. Loved their eggs with beans, they were super tasty. The salsa of the chilaquiles was very tasty too. They offer coffee (with sugar, so if you don’t like it order it without it in advance), fresh orange juice, and sodas. The venue is ok, kind of traditional and cozy. Service is fast, kind of friendly, but not the best. Really cheap prices.

I saw this restaurant on am episode of Anthony Bourdains show. It opens early and it was the midpoint from our airbnb and frida Kahlo museum. We got there around 9 am but there was already a line out the door. They seat you where there is room so you maybe sharing your table with the locals.

I think the true locals come early bc when we were there it was mostly tourists.

The menu is simple. And even if you dont speak Spanish well they try to accomodate you. Which is very nice. The food is AMAZING. Definitely worth the wait. I got breaded chicken with salsa. And chicharron in Verde salsa and the frijoles with huevos. My friend got eggs with ham. So flipping good. I would totally go back there if I went back to Mexico City.

They also have live music by the door. I honestly didnt hear much of it bc I was enamored...

A Magical Place , with magical food! And so many Stories , They have been for almost 78 years , every artist of the Mexican Movies Golden Era were there "Curamdose la Cruda " ( Healing their hang over) or for a very late ( 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning ) or early day. Start with a completo o medio, according to your appetite, this is huevo con frijoles / refried eggs scrambled to perfection with eggs, it comes with salsa de jitomate y serrano salsa and tortillas edge lightly burnt . Then choose one of the Guisados , food cooked in a giant clay pot, all of them are going to be great, do not miss anything with salsa verde. The place has only one size fits everybody tables, and there is always a line to get a place. Do not go after 10 am, since the place will be open but not all the food ....
