Ambiance — we had a dinner reservation for a group of five. They sat us around one small circle table that couples around us shared. There was a group of three next to us with two small tables. With the water glasses, our drinks, and our small plates, there was only room for one dish. If you don’t want to talk with your company, come here because you won’t be able to hear them at all. It’s too loud in here! It’s also too dark. We couldn’t read the one menu we were given.
Service — This is possibly the worst service we’ve gotten at this caliber restaurant. Pujol, Damian, Kato, Momofuku, Orsa & Winston, all have fantastic food and fantastic service. The server couldn’t hear our orders because it was so loud. So we’d point on the menu, which he couldn’t see because it was too dark. What’s the point of this? The server never checked in on us and we had to flag him down several times when we wanted any new drinks, any water, the menu, etc. It was like we were invisible. Maybe they actually couldn’t see us because it was so dark in there.
Drinks — none of the cocktails sounded very appealing. We got four different cocktails, beer, and two mezcals. None of it was mind-blowing. Tasty, but not creative.
Food - Wished we got some more food but our table was too small and we couldn’t stand to be in there anymore. We first ordered three dishes because we were afraid they wouldn’t fit on our table and planned to order more. The first one came out pretty quickly and was mediocre. The second one didn’t and someone came by asking if we received it. We said no of course and it came about 5-10 mins later. It was very tasty. The timing of the third dish was the most atrocious. Our reservation was at 7:15. We arrived early at 7:08 and was seated immediately. I checked the time when someone else came by to ask if we got our third dish. It was 8:40! We were so ready to leave. After maybe 10-15 mins we wanted to cancel the order and leave, but they rolled out with the third dish. Food was very good but there’s no way we’d go back just to eat it considering all the other factors.
Go to Pujol instead. The food is amazing and they treat...
Read moresome big no-no's from me, as follows: food and drinks get snatched from under your nose as you're still finishing them, there's no lingering over any of it we were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water, didn't seem like there was a choice as to whether we should get water. a bottle of purified tap water was $8.5, a ridiculous price food was pretty one note. the tuna taco had no zing, it wasn't salted, nothing stood out, and the tortilla fell apart in our hands; same with the octopus taco, I could only taste char marks from the grill and nothing else... no zest, no spice. the tamale was overpowered by a the cheese sauce, which didn't allow me to properly taste the masa. this was a birthday celebration for another member of my party and I had explicitly told the server at the beginning that, although we have no allergies, this person does not like/eat cheese. they brought a birthday treat to the table, which would have been lovely, had it not been absolutely smothered in quesillo. the server literally made a face at me when I apparently didn't tip as highly as they would have wanted, but this is the kind of thing one should make note of in serving a table (on top of it, as she was taking away our empty ceviche dish, she splashed it all over the floor, so much so it sprayed on my ankle... no big deal at all, but no acknowledgement/apology was made).
the atmosphere was cool/sexy/moody, the music hopping but deafeaning. a fun night out but I'd never go back or...
Read moreDishonest service, mediocre food, and overpriced offerings accurately summarize my experience at Ticuchi. My wife and I were excited to try this restaurant, initially charmed by the candlelit ambiance, which sets the stage for a romantic date night. The seating arrangement was practical, with an extra table for drinks—a thoughtful touch. Unfortunately, this is where the positives ended.
When we requested bottled water, our server strongly pushed for their house special water, and for drinks, recommended an expensive mezcal-based option. We ordered tamales, memelas, ceviche, and tuna tacos. While portions were small, they sufficed for us as light eaters. The ceviche was a bit salty for my taste. However, service was inattentive; we had to repeatedly flag down our server despite understanding the potential challenges of a busy restaurant.
The real disappointment came when we received the bill. A shocking Mex$190 was charged for 300ml of bottled water, which far exceeds pricing even at renowned establishments like Rosetta. To add to the frustration, the mezcal cocktail, recommended by the server, was an exorbitant Mex$440—substantially higher than premium drinks at top-tier bars like Rayo.
While the food was decent, it was far from exceptional, and the pricing left us feeling cheated. Overpriced drinks, inflated water costs, and subpar service overshadowed the ambiance. I cannot recommend Ticuchi and suggest avoiding this place if you value fair pricing and...
