We went for New Years Eve and it was a horrible and honestly disgusting experience.
TLDR: extremely bad service, all the food was cold, and we saw our waiter use his HANDS to try to switch the sides on a guest’s plate when he realized they were wrong.
Long version - we were a large group and had a reservation for 15 people for New Years Eve. They put us in a room off to the side. The table wasn’t actually big enough to fit 15 people and we were all cramped together. There was also a fire alarm that kept beeping every few minutes because it was running out of batteries. When we told the waiters about it and asked them to fix it, first they lied and said that they couldn’t hear it and then eventually they told us that the alarm always did that. They never attempted to fix it so throughout the entire 4 hours we were there it would beep annoyingly loudly every few minutes.
For the drinks, it took about 45 minutes to get our first round and no water was served at first. Someone at our table asked for water without specifying if the table wanted bottled or not. The waiters brought bottles of water to the entire table and after we opened them, they said that there’s an additional charge not included in the fixed price dinner for them. Someone argued and said we just wanted regular water and so the waiters took the opened, half drank bottles back from us which was so strange - it seemed like they’re planning on serving those to other guests. The service was so slow for cocktails from the wait staff that people just kept getting up from our table and buying drinks from the bar instead.
Then to the food, it was a pre-fixe menu for the entire restaurant which should have made it easier to get our food in a timely manner and hot. Neither could happen. It was a 4 course meal and we got there at 8PM. Our 1st course didn’t arrive until 9:30 and our dessert arrived around 11:45PM. All of the food varied from cold to slightly warm at best. There was supposed to be baked Brie for example and instead by the time it arrived it was just a cold, coagulated hunk of cheese with stuff on it. Another option was stuffed cannelloni - it also arrived cold and the pasta was still raw and crunchy in parts throughout. People in the group tried to complain about how long things were taking and the food being cold and the wait staff never once apologized or did anything other than shrug it off. It was bizarre.
The last straw for me was the most disgusting. For the entrees, there were 2 options for the sides that you could choose from (carrots or potatoes). One of the waiters realized that the kitchen mixed up the sides for someone’s meal. While standing in the room (not realizing people on one side could see him) he started picking up potatoes on one plate WITH HIS DIRTY HANDS and carrots on the other plate to switch the sides around. I started telling him to stop and his solution (with a few other waiters) was to try to block our view with their bodies and continue swapping items. When we told them that was disgusting and that we wouldn’t eat that food they told us that we were lying and that they had “security footage” to prove it. We asked for managers to talk to several times and they kept just bringing new people in who pretended to be managers and they kept telling us we were lying. After speaking with several people we finally got the actual manager who was actually apologetic and offered us a bottle of tequila as an apology.
It never should have gotten to that point and the fact that anyone thought it was ok, let alone the several waiters who were helping at the time that the one waiter decided to move food with his fingers, is absolutely insane. This place is disgusting and should be avoided. It completely ruined our NYE experience and based on the amount of tables that we walked by with completely untouched food as we were leaving, it seems like we weren’t the only ones to have a...
Read moreI came here after a friend recommended and I was absolutely blown away by the service, ambience and the food!!! I don't know what the other people are talking about but this place was BOMB!
We ordered two salads to start, the Mediterranean and the Beet Salad. Both were delicious but i have to highlight the Beet Salad! It was so good and I don't even like beets! We wanted to get another one but decided to save room for the rest.
We then ordered the Arrachera tacos, Tuna Carnitas, Fried Chicken Torta, the Cauliflower salad, and a side of grilled veggies (these weren't on the menu but my friend was trying to be healthy so they made it happen)
Just wow. Everything was incredible. The meat was so tender in the tacos and they came on some homemade tortillas. The tortillas looked like they literally made them straight up from the nixtamal. I love how they serve everything with a side of lime and these 2 little delicious salsas. One salsa was more like a Smokey chili oil and the other was a green salsa (tomatillo and jalapeño maybe) it tasted great on everything! The Cauliflower salad was also pretty epic. It was only half a cauliflower but it was gigantic! I loved the sauce on it, it kinda had a Mac and cheese vibe. It was so lovely.
My favorite dish was probably the Tuna Carnitas. They came on a bed of smooth guacamole and the texture was EXACTLY like carnitas! They served it with a side of little tiny tortillas in the most precious tortilla holder.
We finished up our meal with a cappuccino & the chocolate mousse! It was more fudgy than I expected but it was complimented with some delicious peanut ice cream!
The service was amazing also, the servers were tentative to everything we needed and also provided my friend with an English menu. They always made sure to clear our plates and make sure we were doing alright. Can't wait to come back and try more!
The only thing I wish they had was to go containers. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our mouths luckily the server was able to wrap up our food in foil so we can enjoy the leftovers at the hotel! Thank you so much for the...
Read moreI had such high hopes for Toldeo Rooftop and it was ruined by their inept staff. Booked a reservation for 11:00pm on a Friday night for a party of 8 celebrating a friend's birthday; we were visiting from L.A. and had an itinerary for the entire weekend. We arrived and the hostess said she didn't have our reservation - she used the excuse that Google doesn't connect to their system but I reserved on their own website which linked with Google. Reading other reviews, this appears to be an "ongoing" issue for which they haven't fixed or it's just a BS excuse.
I can see two lounge areas near the bar available which is what I booked. The hostess says to wait and disappears - I have to track her down where she has another guy come and walk me and my friends over to a dark area where we have to walk over gravel in our Louboutin and Aquazzara heels: NO THANK YOU! Instead of giving us one of the two lounges clearly available, the guy tries to find us seating in the restaurant area which is not what we booked - we just came from Rosa Negra. If we wanted to sit in a restaurant, we would have stayed there where the vibes and service were immaculate. Needless to say, we left and went elsewhere but it put a damper on our night. And its strange because we had reservations at the sister rooftop, Supra Rooftop, the next night and had zero problems getting the table we reserved and the manager was nice.
I would not have even written a review until I received an email from Google asking for a review, so here you have it! If you're booking this spot, it's a toss-up whether or not your reservation will be honored. They like to play games so I wouldn't bother or have a...
