Great food but don't get fooled! They will routinely try to overcharge you. Out of some 6 times I had been there, 3 times they tried to play around the amount of tip I asked them to add. You can be as specific as you want and speak good Spanish, and they will still try to be "creative". Pay attention to what they type into their card terminals. If you say 15%, make sure it's what they choose from the screen. They may either add 15 pesos if 15% was less than that (again, even if you explicitly ask for "porcientos"), or just some completely arbitrary number, like 20 or 25%. Run the number in your head and make sure the final amount shown on the terminal checks out. On one account I was served by a manager and after hesitating for 3 seconds, he typed in 15 MXN on a 50 MXN bill after I asked for a 15% tip. He served me earlier on and rolled his eyes after I asked for a simple torta and no drink, so this wasn't a...
Read moreGreat food at reasonable prices. We ended up going twice during our trip and the first visit was outstanding. We decided to go back a few days later for breakfast. When we went to pay our check via CC, the waiter asked us if we wanted to leave a tip. I am told him 15% which equaled 35 pesos. He keyed in 100 pesos and quickly walked away. I called out after him and asked for a receipt. He wasn’t able to produce one so I confronted him on the total charge. He sheepishly admitted that he charged us too much and tried to give me cash to make up the difference.
Ironically, we met an ex pat the night before and compared food recommendations. When I brought up Tortas Al Fuego, he mentioned having issues with the waiter adding a non authorized 30% tip. It’s unfortunate we experienced a similar issue 12...
Read moreI'm giving this 5 stars for a few reasons. Service is friendly, efficient, excellent, consistent and they're open 24/7. 55mxn pesos for a decent size torta with queso oaxaca for the area is exceptional value! Truly delicious and fast. Eat in or take away. I have eaten something there 5 days in a row. I met some local regulars, two different generations, who have been frequenting the puesto for 45 and 20 years who conceded it was the best torta stand in the city. In my experience after 7 visits to Mexico City, I have to agree Unless you're vegan, you can't go wrong here. My favourite torta here is the 'lomo adobado con queso'. Highly...
