I must say, my recent dining experience at Matisse was rather disappointing. Initially, there was an error with my order, which resulted in a twenty-minute delay while my wife's meal unfortunately cooled. Throughout this, there was no apology offered. While the food was acceptable, the pricing seemed excessive for the quality. Furthermore, it proved difficult to locate a waiter, even though the restaurant was almost empty. Eventually, I had to personally seek out a waiter to place my espresso order. Regrettably, the espresso itself was not good, and I was unable to finish it. Upon receiving the bill, I chose not to include a service charge, citing the poor service. The waiter promptly processed the payment without offering an apology or inquiring about the issues. Despite our polite expressions of gratitude, he did not acknowledge us. Consequently, I do not intend to return and would not recommend this...

Quiet early afternoon on front patio. Hostess brought lukewarm Americano then disappeared so I couldn't ask for hot coffee. Knife was dirty, had to wait more than five minutes to ask for clean knife, longer to get one. Eggs Matisse in cheese sauce might have been delicious when plated. With cold crust of cooled cheese on top from sitting more than five minutes, not tasty. I requested my check before the next table did. They were long gone and I had to find someone to pay. Everyone seemed to be hiding somewhere. I chose not to be that person who repeatedly shouts "waiter", but perhaps I should have been. The food could have been good but the service was the worst I have had in CDMX.

I won't return. Perhaps that was their intent. Their wish has...

Beautiful courtyard with a fountain that isn’t visible from outside. A perfect setting for what was to come. I ordered a perfect dinner of soup de fideos which we shared — simple tomato base with lovely noodles. Followed by what might be my favorite dish I’ve ever had in CDMX (4 visits) — duck made carnitas style! Order it, and you’ll get a banana leaf filled with delicious delectable duck meat, skin, grizzle, all the delights of duck! I tore off a piece of my flour tortilla, piled in the duck, topped it with pico de gallo, guacamole, lime juice — and it was a cascade of perfect bites! I’m running back next week for another meal! Oh and...

Super disappointed! While the environment was lovely, and the spot seemed really popular, we were really surprised with the lack of quality with the food. I ordered French poached eggs with salmon and brioche bread, and half the salmon came out uncooked and cold. Not a single aspect of the plate looked fresh. I didn’t even eat the meal out of fear of food poisoning. My partner’s dish came out very poor as well. We didn’t have forks to start the meal out with, though it was handled in a relatively timely manner. The only highlight was the staff— every single one of them were lovely.

You can only tip in cash only here. Food was good. - "Matisse" salad (variety of fresh lettuce, palm hearts, artichokes, asparagus, with blackberry and mango vinaigrette) Was very good. But ask for the vinaigrette on the side or else they add toooooo much and the entire salad is drenched. - Salmon fillet in a crust of 3 chilies w / rice garnish. Also good. The salmon was a bit dry but the chilli sauce was delicious. - Aztlán filet heart (stuffed with goat cheese, bathed with pasilla sauce). Was a bit overdone but still tasty. They go heavy on the cheese.

Unfortunately a very disappointing experience. We ordered a chicken dish which was dry and came with mashed potatoes which hadn’t been boiled long enough (and were clearly reheated in a microwave), and a chiles en nogada which tasted nice but was freeezing cold (it’s supposed to be served at room temperature but clearly came straight from the fridge). The prices were also high, around 300-400 pesos each dish. Avoid this restaurant (for dinner at least) and find somewhere else.
