Casa Babylon — Restaurant in Oaxaca

Yikessss! So - Music was good, patrons were fun. There is a book library, and i picked up one off the shelf to be able to read the title, and 30 secs later an agitated woman appeared and aggressively yanked the book out of my hand, and shouted 'don't touch my books!' in Spanish (only then I noticed the tiny writing on the shelf saying 'don't touch!') & she weirdly took the book back behind the bar. Then.. 10 min later she found me & my boyfriend sitting out on the patio talking and shouted angrily in Spanish at me 'if you don't give me 50 pesos each or go buy a drink right now, you guys can get the hell out!'. I asked her to please speak more slowly because my Spanish is okay but not perfect, but she spoke rápidamente, más enojada, and again shouted 'get out, or give me money now!'. I told her we planned to buy drinks and she shouted now 'right now, or leave!' Totally bizarre and ruined the night. Made everyone on the patio very uncomfortable. All because I touched a book off the shelf without realizing I wasn't supposed to? Or because we were there 15 min but hadn't yet made it to the bar to buy a drink? This isn't stated anywhere as a requirement for entrance. I think maybe.. some gringa must have seriously harmed this woman in the past because she was completely vicious! No matter how nice/aplogetic I was, shouting at me til i cried (on their very nice patio 🤣). Cuídate todos porque hay una bruja loca aquí quien quiere matarle a todos!! There be dragons here! Update: I wrote this as we were leaving, before reading any other reviews. To those worried/stating that she is racist: Take comfort in that she is very hateful toward gringos, too....

Es un lugar muy bonito, tanto en concepto como en su propuesta, ya que usualmente hay música en vivo, el único y gran problema es que los dueños son unos groseros, maleducados, malinchistas. Solía ir seguido con mis amigas hasta que en dos ocasiones nos trataron muy mal los dueños. La primera, nos estábamos yendo del lugar después de estar un buen rato escuchando música y consumiendo, pagamos la cuenta, nos salimos del lugar y el dueño empezó a gritarnos de una forma muy altanera y grosera desde la ventana hacía afuera del lugar (todos escucharon) que nos habíamos ido sin pagar, lo cual no era verdad, por lo que amablemente le respondimos que ya habíamos pagado nuestra cuenta, que revisará bien, le cambio el semblante , entela revisar y ya ni nos dijo nada, ni si quiera una disculpa por la equivocación. Después paso un buen tiempo, decidimos dejarlo pasar y fuimos a ver a unos amigos tocar, incluso íbamos a cantar con ellos. En cuanto llegamos yo quería pasar al sanitario, mientras mis amigas se quedaron en la mesa que elegimos y ordenaban sus bebidas, yo por mi parte estaba en el baño, lavándome las manos tranquilamente cuando la dueña llegó al baño apurada, con una actitud muy altanera y en estado de ebriedad con un caballito de tequila a medias en mano, dirigiéndose a mi con voz muy fuerte, casi gritando, muy altanera y hostil diciéndome que no podía utilizar el sanitario si no consumía antes de usarlo. A lo que le conteste tranquila, un poco sacada de contexto, pero clara que tenía que pasar al baño puesto que era necesario, pero que mis amigas ya se encontraban en la mesa pidiendo sus bebidas y que en cuanto fuera para allá pediría lo mío, me siguió hablando de la misma forma, diciendo que no, que antes de pasar al baño tenía que aguantarme hasta pedir algo porque no era baño público. Estaba totalmente fuera de sí, le pedí que no se dirigiera a mi de esa forma tan altanera y sólo siguió repitiendo lo mismo. En cuanto llegué a la mesa supe que a mis amigas también las habían tratado mal (a ellas el dueño) diciéndoles lo mismo, que nadie podía pasar al baño hasta haber ordenado todas (refiriéndose a mi), de una forma muy grosera, a lo que ellas respondieron que eso no tenia sentido si ya estábamos consumiendo. (Porque ellas ya habían ordenado) Mis amigas se tomaron rápidamente lo que habían ordenado y nos fuimos lo más pronto posible del lugar. Fue realmente muy indignante la forma en la que nos trataron los dueños, y por lo que he escuchado suelen hacer eso con la gente mexicana, ya que a los extranjeros los tratan como reyes. Es muy triste que en bares en Mexico exista esa clase de malinchismo tan notable. Fue triste porque disfrutábamos mucho de ir a escuchar música y consumir bebidas ricas, perdieron clientas frecuentes por su mal trato a los clientes. Nunca volvería a ese lugar, no vale la pena ir a escuchar música en vivo a costa de exponerse a gente así de voluble, agresiva...

A great place for both day and night! With Bev's Beer Garden open with sports on during the day-early evening, there's constant entertainment. The best wings on Zicatela, big and meaty. The smash burger was delicious! HD sports events on the big screen with little to no interruption in signal (which is easier said than done in PXM). Great atmosphere with friendly owners and staff! Bathrooms are super clean. Casa Babylon is a staple venue, sometimes providing two shows a night. The variety of acts though its doors means you can go night after night and get a whole new vibe. From acoustic to rock to funk to mexicana, you can get it all! The drinks are delicious and they have alot of options for non-alcohlic bevies. We went to both venues several times during our short stay in PXM!! Loved it every time. We like to pre-game at Bev's Beer Garden and then head in to get a table for the show in...
