Local restaurant with proper seating in a local market. Occasionally, the band will play some music which makes the ambience nice and lively. Serves oaxacan cuisine which importantly must include mole, tlayuda and hot chocolate. Try the normal mole as well as mole roja. Mole roja, the red spicy mole, is better. Hot chocolate was made with water (instead of milk) and tasted good. There is also a wide selection of bread to go with the drinks or mole.

The best Oaxacan food we found! It's located inside a market, but don't let the lack of a restaurant dissuade you. There was plenty of seating and it was indoors away from the heat. The owner and wait staff were incredibly friendly and helped us pick out delicious food. They had plenty of vegetarian options and modifications. If you are in Oaxaca this place is a must try!

A fun atmosphere and restaurant in La Merced market. Seating is at large tables in a quiet part of the market away from the busy vendors. The food was a good value and delicious. Service was fast and friendly and we had a good time. We had an enchilada, empanada and an open faced taco with fungus corn. All were excellent.
