We were really looking forward to trying Leña y Vino since it’s in our neighborhood and we’ve lived in Playa del Carmen for years. I ordered the pork shank my mom ordered the pesacado chicharron with a side of sweet potato fries we confirmed several times. After we were done eating the waited brought out a huge plate of fish we never ordered, we explained we didn't order it, he took it away all good. The food was normal/good and the waiter seemed friendly at first, but when the bill came, they charged us for a dish we never ordered — a 400 peso fish we never asked for. When we politely explained the mistake, instead of fixing it, both the waiter and the bartender argued with us and tried to insist we pay for it. The heavy-set bartender was especially rude, actually trying to gaslight us, raising his voice at us saying he heard us order it from the bar(?). The waiter told us they would charge him if we didn't pay for it. Then he tried to blame it on a “language barrier,” even though I’m fluent in Spanish (though not a native speaker). We argued with both of them until I told him I would be leaving a review the bartender finally took it off the bill. This kind of behavior is extremely rude and completely unacceptable in this kind of establishment. This was clearly a scam. Judging from other reviews, it seems this has happened before. I know it's low season but being this greedy will hurt your business more in the long run. Even if it had been a misunderstanding, good restaurants take responsibility and comp the dish. The way they handled it left a terrible impression. We usually tip 20%, but this time we left 5%. It’s unfortunate because the food was good, but we won’t be returning. Be careful when ordering here and always check your bill CAREFULLY don't let them talk them into paying for something you...

If you are looking for a surprise in Playa del Carmen, look no further than Anafre. This restaurant is hidden in a side street but once you ring the bells and enter the door, you are greeted by a swanky club that could rival any in Milan. It is a stunning contrast.
The ambiance is classy and elegant, with a touch of craftiness. Anafre knows how to create a captivating atmosphere that stands out from the rest of the dining scene in Playa del Carmen.
The music is another highlight, with sweet tunes that complement the vibe perfectly. Anafre puts on a fine culinary show with some killer background beats. You can enjoy your meal and your conversation without any distractions.
But be warned, this is not a cheap date. Anafre is a splurge for a taste adventure. You will need to loosen your wallet and your belt for this gastronomic rollercoaster.
The steak is a star player, but it also comes with a hefty price tag. Anafre charges a premium for its meat, but it may not be worth it. The salad was a latecomer, arriving after the steak. Anafre needs to work on its timing and coordination. It's the little things that matter.
The desserts, however, are worth every penny. They are the showstoppers of the night. The Panna Cotta with Maracuja is a masterpiece that comes straight from Anafre's kitchen. It is heavenly.
I was hoping for a limoncello liqueur or a mezcal, as a gesture of hospitality and a nod to the local culture. But Anafre did not offer any.
In summary, Anafre is more than just a place to eat; it's a place to escape. It's a mini vacation in Milan without the jet lag. Anafre has a great combination of good food and cool vibes. It's the kind of place that leaves a mark on your taste buds -...
Read moreI’ll keep this short and sweet! Took my mum to Anafre, Cocina a la Leña & Vino - Now my favorite place to eat in Playa. You absolutely must try their signature tostada for starter (I believe it was Marlin with an avocado base and some caviar)! My mum, whose favorite thing to eat in Mexico before our visit to Anafre was a 2x1 Nutrisa on a Thursday, told me after one bite; “this is the best thing I’ve tasted since I’ve moved to Mexico”. Significant words from a connoisseur, to be sure. We also had the bruschetta to share, also very tasty, (ask for an extra side of their bread basket). We both had the steak for the main course; I can’t remember which one as we were already a bottle of wine in at this point. I think it was the Rib-eye. what I can tell you is that it tasted awesome. Based on my experience however, I would ask them to cook your steak one level below what you are used to, but that could have been a one off. Their olive oil ice cream desert was also super unique and didn’t fill you up too much after the huge steak. We had the churros too 🤫 personally I would ask for more of the raspberry coulis that they drizzle on top (at least that’s what it looked and tasted like after two bottles of wine!) As well as an extra side of ice cream. Our new favorite spot - now they just need to let us “locals” in with a special knock at the door (reservation only) so that we can just sit at the bar for a drink because the vibe is awesome. Love seeing these 5-star spots “this side of the Carretera”. Maybe this review wasn’t too short, but it was sweet! ...
