I recently visited Birria de la 30 in Playa del Carmen, and I’m giving it a fantastic 5 out of 5 stars—it’s an absolute must-try for Mexican food lovers! Tucked away on 30 Avenida Nte, this little spot is a hidden gem that’s all about authentic birria. I ordered the tacos dorados and a bowl of consomé, and let me tell you, it was pure magic. The tacos were crispy, packed with tender, flavorful beef that melted in my mouth, and dipping them in the rich, savory consomé was a game-changer. They also brought out a bunch of salsas—each one was bursting with flavor, and the agua de Pitaya was a refreshing 10/10. The staff were so warm and welcoming, making sure I had everything I needed with big smiles, even though the place was packed. It’s small, with just a few tables, but the cozy vibe and lively energy made it even better. I’ve heard it can get busy, but I only waited about 5 minutes for a seat, and the service was quick once I sat down. The prices are a steal—my meal was around 200 pesos, including a drink, which is amazing for the quality. Parking was easy to find nearby, and the central location makes it perfect for a quick stop. Birria de la 30 is hands-down the best birria I’ve had, and I can’t...
Read moreWe arrived at 9 pm and were seated in a table that was dirty and already had some left over sauces. Waitress never cleaned table nor removed the sauces seen in the picture attached.
The menu is in the wall. We ordered 6 tacos, the waitress was unkind, unfriendly and uninterested. I get it, she was tired, had a bad day and probably was ready to go but wow never seen such horrible service in my life and i can tell you i’ve seen some very bad service in my time.
We were brought the 6 tacos and it seems we were expected to use the left over sauces, onions, etc.. from who knows when and who. Also, we ordered a liter of soda and had to remind her to bring it and were never brought cups so the 2 of us had to drink from straight from the same bottle. In the end, we paid with a $US50 bill, they charged us more than the original price and gave us Mexican pesos back instead of USD at an exchange rate of $15 even though it was $17 which is fine I guess but on top of it never received a an actual bill/receipt.
Very sad experience. It seems that the way to go with this place is to order for takeout. Oh well. By the way, food was just below average too see...
Read moreGood food. The restaurant is laid out kinda funky, so expect to wait. We waited 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The food is made to order, but the condiments at the table (sauces, onions, etc.) are there for continuous use, so be wary, because whatever is at your table is what the last table used. We tried their tacos, suave and dorado, consomme, enchiladas, and more. Everything was tasty and flavorful. The layout is odd, and cramp, so expect to sit on top of one another, and they don't have a receiving area, so vendors were delivering and unloading next to you, next to your table. We had two different servers, one was very polite and attentive, the other did their best to ignore everyone. Come here for the food, but that's pretty much it. We really looked forward to trying this place. A few minor changes would elevate the experience...
