El Curandero Mariscos & grill — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

Be aware of the waiters trying to push you towards buying the most expensive drinks in the house! I went to the restaurant with my boyfriend as we wanted to have seafood at a reasonable price in the nice place. The food was nice indeed but the waiter totally scammed us. My boyfriend wanted to have good tequila and since we are not the experts, he asked the waiter for a recommendation. First, all of relatively affordable tequila suddenly “disappeared” from the menu. My boyfriend was hesitant to buy the most expensive option left, but later suddenly more tequila brands appeared casually mentioned by waiter with just names. Since the most expensive option in the menu was already the one my boyfriend was ready to get, he asked for that other one mentioned by the waiter. Turns our he sold us even more expensive tequila (12 euro for a shot). We already spent enough money at the restaurant so we were really disappointed by this. Great cozy restsurant to eat healthy. I decided to go for the Tuna Salad followed by marinated raw shrimps, tuna, salmon in a oyster sauce...delicious !!

At first, I wanted to try the oysters but, I found the restaurant a bit greedy: 225 pesos for 6 oysters and 450 pesos for 12 oysters and...I did not want to take the chance to get small oysters and/or not liking them.

Great latina music in the backgound...we are able to have great conversations without screaming and sports on TVs.

I'm not a big fan of fish/seafood but trying to "stretch" my palette. I kind of walked in hesitantly but to my surprise the food was delicious. I literally ate everything and was thoroughly pleased. Waiter was amicable and friendly, and the ambience was decent. Some music in the background, not too loud, and spacious for a place, which I love. Not a fan of having to scream over my neighboring table to be heard. I did sit outside though, where the music is a bit less loud (therefore all felt pleasant to me). I would come again, no...
