Fives Rooftop — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

Horrible service and unsafe for anyone with allergies or dietary restrictions. We got rooftop day passes on 10/24, and I told our waiter that I have celiac (gluten allergy) and that I am sober and cannot have alcohol. He said he understood, but the staff repeatedly ignored both.

The nachos I ordered were missing ingredients, took over 30 minutes, and came smothered in fake yellow nacho cheese instead of the cotija listed on the menu. When I asked, the waiter lied and said it was a “different kind of cotija.”

Then I ordered a Miami Vice sin alcohol, and they brought me one with alcohol. When I pointed it out, the bartender confirmed it contained alcohol. They remade it—and it was a double. I’ve been sober for two years, and this was absolutely unacceptable.

Later, I ordered plain ice cream (no biscuit crumbs because of gluten). It came with crumbs anyway. After sending it back, I’m almost certain they just scooped it from the same contaminated bowl. I ended up getting sick from gluten exposure afterward.

The food overall was mediocre, overpriced, and not what’s advertised. Another guest’s burger was undercooked and another had a Caesar salad and said that it didn’t even taste like Caesar. Between the lies, the cross-contamination, and the complete disregard for sobriety, this was one of the worst and most dangerous dining experiences I’ve ever had.

Avoid this place...

2 yrs ago when my bf came to visit, he got upgraded to the presidential suite and it was sick!!! Amazing view, private pool and bar. The only thing is the noise on weekends from a bar one block away - unfortunately that’s everywhere in the hotel area.

We went back a few times and yesterday again on a day pass. The fives delivers every time!

The Sunday brunch was good - more lunch than breakfast but lots of options. Buffet style, although I anticipate better. My stomach wasn’t feeling the greatest after for a couple of days. I think just because food is out in the open so it could get contaminated easily.

I got the day pass on resort passes, which was a great value. We got to use the pool, jacuzzi, lounge chair with towel service, and credit towards food and drinks. The food was yummy, and view was amazing, and the staff was (always) polite and professional. My bf loves the fives and I have to agree. Thank you Fives Downtown....

Ordered 3 Filets for myself my wife, and my daughter (it was her birthday). We have been to the restaurant many times. The steaks were below adequate. My wife’s was tough and had no flavor, my daughters was the same. They had only taken 2 small bites and I had the waiter take them to the manager. Mine was tender but strange texture no taste. I didn’t send mine back. After we complained the manager an 2 waiters had a long meeting and decided to give us 1 desert for our disappointment. BUT STILL CHARGED ME FOR THE ENTIRE MEAL THAT THEY DIDN’T EAT. I ate part of mine and have been paying for it since. Started having stomach problems shortly after and as of 2:00 today still sick. Had to cancel our dive trip. THIS IS THE WORST MANAGEMENT IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE FIVES ROOF TOP RESTAURANT.
