Absolutely loved Madrez Cafe in PDC! At first glance, this place might not catch your eye—it’s got that unassuming, low-key look that could make you question if you’re in the right spot. But let me tell you, if you’re skipping out based on appearances, you’re seriously missing out.
I was in town for dental work, so my eating options were limited, but I made it a point to hit Madrez Cafe twice in one week, and both visits were worth it! The iced caramel lattes hit the spot on a hot afternoon. They were strong but smooth, perfectly balanced, and totally refreshing. Then there’s the sourdough waffles 🤤🤤 I chose the fresh fruit option that included apples, pears, apricots(?), and a few berries, along with a good helping of sweet yogurt, and that tangy sourdough base was DELICIOUS. It’s easily one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in PDC—both appetizing and light enough to enjoy even with a sore/numb mouth.
On top of that, the staff are phenomenal. Service was quick, and our server was a total standout—handsome, friendly, and genuinely easy to chat with as his English was better than most Americans. They take American Cash & Card, along with the Mexican Peso.
Whether you’re just passing through or here for an extended stay, Madrez Cafe is a hidden gem you won’t want to miss!...
Read moreVisited this place in Playa del Carmen, my husband chose it based on yelp reviews, I usually like to visit informal, cash-only, plastic chairs kind of places to eat, but since it was his birthday I decided to not complain and see what it was all about. First off, the menu was in English, I really did want to leave because who goes to Mexico to eat American food but I thought to myself "Everything is better in Mexico." I ordered the waffles with fried eggs, spinach, and a chipotle sauce. BOY was I blown away. The server did an amazing job explaining all of the menu items and why they were special. Yeasted waffles with salsa! A definite match made in heaven, I tried a bit with syrup and it was good too. The lemonade was pretty and was delicious with the food. I don't remember what the price were like, but I think we all ate for around 380-400 pesos. I would definitely recommend this spot to breakfast lovers visiting the area. Our friend ordered the gorditas with chorizo and once the food came, we were all quiet. All the food was gone in 5 minutes. We ate inside although there was outdoor dining, it was out of the sun. I am glad I gave this place a chance, it was so good and the service was...
Read moreI've been here twice. The second time, I felt like a better welcoming than the first. The first time, I spoke to the gentleman in Spanish, but of the bat only spoke English even after I started the conversation still in Spanish. Don't know if he was offended, but I am in Mexico, so I thought Spanish would be preferred.
Anyways the second time was a bit better as far as a warm welcome. I've tried the breakfast bagel the first visit and the Gorditas Poblanas the second. The bagel was good, and the Gorditas Poblanas were fantastic. Great flavor, and that homemade sauce is fire. It's not spicy and has good taste.
I've only had the iced caramel latte. By far, it was the worst coffee I had. Was about 10 percent coffee, 60 percent milk, and 30 perfect caramel. The caramel tasted like peanuts for whatever reason. Maybe they ran out of caramel and got the closest thing to it. On the menu, it says they are known for the gorditas and coffee, right on 1 out of the 2.
Anyways, in the end, it will be a hit or miss when it comes to reception and coffee, I guess, but the food alone is good to stop by.
And don't ask for wifi! They will look at you as if you insulted...
