Soundset Beach Club — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

My friends needed to use the restroom really badly so we came in here and asked if we could use the bathroom. One of my friends was already in the bathroom while the other one was asking the bartender if we could use it. He told us that we needed to buy two expensive drinks in order to use it. My friend then asked if he could use the bathroom first and then pay for the 2 beers after since he really needed to go, and the bartender kept repeating the same thing over and over again (language barrier perhaps?). My friend decided to just try and use the bathroom first and then handle the situation afterwards. The bartender then proceeds to yell, jump over the bar, and aggressively pull my friend from the urinal he was using and called a backup staff to throw him out onto the beach outside. Needless to say I was horrified and the bartender walked over to me and asked me to pay for a beer for the other friend still in the bathroom. We paid for the beer after she came out and walked out as quickly as possible. The only reason why this is not a one star review is because the manager came out and found our group to at least apologize for his staff's behavior. But honestly the mental and physical damage was already done (they left quite a nasty bruise).The initial response was entirely unacceptable and unreasonable. Do not go here - they will scam you. I was approached by the manager (shorter bald man) who told me that I would get drinks for 100 pesos if I came in. I went there the next day, found the manager, and asked him if I would still get drinks for 100 pesos and he put his arm around me, welcomed me back, and said yes, that all three of us could get a round of drinks for 100 each. We ordered our drinks and got the bill and they charged us double for each drink, plus an extra $30 USD because we sat in chairs (it was never communicated to us that there was a charge for this). I approached the manager and he denied having both of our conversations and completely gaslit me as if I had made the whole thing up. The waitress was begging me to pay the full amount ($75 USD instead of ~$20) telling me it would come out of her paycheck if I didn't. Absolutely horrible experience and scummy manager...

Place is nice, right on the beach, and it has a fog machine. Drinks are ok, similar price to others in the area. My 220 pesos drink (Soundset Love) was watered down, but I think every club does that. I loved the music, although it was too loud. I wanted to stay on the beach, but couldn’t because of the loud music. Inside the music volume was ok, but it was rather boring. Would not go again because of the mandatory 20% tip. Waiter was nice and attentive, until we left him 10% tip. He just walked away without saying anything. I suppose we should have left nothing then? I don’t want to fight with the waiter every time I go to leave 10% tip, and not 20% like they insist. They don’t want you coming at all if you are not prepared to tip 20%.
