Restaurante Santa Elena Comedor Mexicano (Cholula) — Restaurant in Puebla

After reading great reviews I had high expectations of this place. My first impression was of a dirty restaurant. The table was dusty and no one cleaned it upon seating. The cutlery was also really cheap and felt dirty. The presentation of the food was very good but the flavour was a total let down. The sauce overly salty, the tortillas old and dry and the cheese flavourless. It all tasted reheated, not fresh at all. Maybe some fresh herbs would have helped. The food was also lukewarm and cold by the time of eating. They gave a bread roll cut into slices to accompany the dish that was completely stale - I can’t believe they can’t give you a fresh roll for the price. I wouldn’t call the portion “generous” either, the actual enchiladas were small, there was just a lot of sauce. For 195 pesos you get coffee, it was ok but also lukewarm and a small plate of fruit just the same as in any other cheaper restaurant (melon, papaya and apple with a cheap granola). Really great food. I had the Huauchinango, specifically because it had za'atar, which is my all time favorite seasoning. The eggs and sauces that it came with plus the pita was just so delicious.

My husband got the Oaxaca, and he loved it as well.

Busque el restaurante a través de Maps buscando un restaurante de chiles en nogada en Cholula, era el segundo de la lista, lo elegí porque se encuentra en la plaza Terminal donde hay estacionamiento. El restaurante es de dos niveles, el nivel superior es el restaurante y el inferior es donde está una tienda, una especie de recepción y los baños, cuando llegué no había alguien en la parte baja, esperaba que alguien me recibiera, sin embargo, no había alguien, entre al baño, salí y no había nadie, bajo alguien después de unos minutos y me indico que el servicio de restaurante era arriba, supongo que está permitido subir si problema; la parte superior está ambientada bien a mi gusto, el servicio es bueno, el chile que pedí tenía buen sazón, no es el mejor que he comido, pero es bueno.
