I don’t feel great leaving a strongly negative review, and might have caught them on an off night or something. But we had such a bad experience that I thought a counterbalance to the other reviews is needed.
The staff was friendly enough and the setting pleasant, but we waited 80 minutes for three tacos and a salad with only three other tables seated. When the tacos finally arrived, we found them borderline inedible. For example, one was simply a whole unsliced steak - minimally seasoned and overcooked to the point of rubberiness - on a flavorless tortilla under a mountain of crispy onions but no sauce.
After a bite of each, we decided to simply pay the check and leave. If it had just been one item, we might have asked for something different, but what do you do when it’s all difficult to choke down? Excellent service! It all started with the fresh chips and salsa verde and hot pepper oil. Great!
We ordered a rum and Coke ( in which we HAD to ask for a second glass as it had to be split due to the large amount of rum they gave…lol!
My wife ordered the shrimp ceviche. Very tasteful and what a beautiful presentation. She could only eat half.
I ordered the bone marrow with shrimp. I thought it was an appetizer but boy, was I mistaken. It was very delicious but also very rich.
I then got my main meal. Grilled octopus in garlic butter over mashed potatoes, carrots and zucchini. THE BEST I EVER ATE! The octopus was SO TENDER!
We couldn’t eat it all. We basically took home two meals.

La Perla Negra review: Excellente! Don’t let the red plastic chairs fool you! Between 3 of us we had steak (arrachera, grilled shrimp, and ceviche de cameron) and all were pretty much the best we’ve ever had anywhere! The steak was so tender and well grilled with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. Shrimp were perfectly cooked (not overdone!) and large also with the veggies. Ceviche was almost too gorgeous to eat but I’m glad I did! They played Miles Davis and Ray Charles and other cool lounge tunes. Staff were very friendly and pleased we enjoyed it Highly recommend!!!
