Absolutely delicious hearty food made with intention and love. One of the few small family owned places we could find with very affordable authentic flavor packed food. I got the fajitas with fresh squeezed orange juice and a fanta, and my husband got a burrito and coke which he ate SO FAST. They took note of our diary/cheese allergies and accommodated which was much appreciated. 🥰 We were able to talk to Imelda (I assume), the owner for awhile as we ate. She was so kind and sweet adding to a very welcoming experience. She told us her story of her restaurant and how she has been there for 27 years, as well as the recent trying times of the pandemic and community effort from some women who made a go fund me to help support her restaurant. It is so wonderful to see she was able to make it out with the help of community and people who were also touched by the delicious food and experience here. I hope nothing but more success for Imelda and for everyone to try her food! Thank you for such a delicious meal and talking with us. We cherish small family owned businesses with amazing food and we hope to be back...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our late lunch experience Imelda’s. The food was local and authentic and affordable. Lunch plates are either $7 or $9 (US) and delicious. Fish tacos were great. The fish fillet was also excellent. Staff is so friendly and kind. Place is extremely clean. Right off main Plaza. Just ask around how to find it. Delightful.
Update: Went again for her Friday night only (6pm and on) dinner. Tried the cochinita pibil which is the whole pig that is roasted in ground (similar to Hawaiian style) and then shredded and seasoned with delicious sauce and served in small cazuelas. Very reasonably priced as well at around $12. She also does chili rellenos and tamales on the Friday night dinner. Imelda and Glenda are lovely,...
Read moreI am so happy we found Imelda’s while we were staying in Akumal. It’s a warm, family restaurant right off of the plaza near the beach and I appreciated that it was on the quieter side of the plaza and market. We ate as many breakfasts, lunches, and dinners (open later on Friday nights) as we could. For breakfast, the tostadas with eggs are perfect with fresh squeezed orange juice. Specials including the most delicious, lightest chile relleno I’ve ever had. For lunch, super light, crisp fresh fish tacos. I’m so glad we got a chance to try her specials including chicken pozole and cochinita pibil. Everything is made with care and it tastes like the very best home cooking. Thank you, Imelda! We...
