What to do when the power is out and I can't cook what I had planned for tonight's dinner?
We tried a new (to us) restaurant this evening called El Barrio (Zacateros 43). Normally I would write about service, food, and atmosphere first, but with the temperature hovering near 90° the first thing I want to say is they have AIR CONDITIONING! In the middle of an SMA heat wave, it was a godsend.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with some beautiful murals. It is bright, airy, and welcoming. As soon as we sat down the server brought out chips with three different types of salsas. We ordered our drinks (Limonada mineral for each of us, which was fresh squeezed at the bar right behind us) and a side of guacamole while we pondered the menu. The guac was out of this world, some of the best we have had in SMA.
For dinner Stacy ordered chicken flautas and I ordered the chimichanga burrito. Stacy said the flautas were amazing and they were stuffed with so much chicken that she couldn't finish them all. The flautas were topped with lettuce, tomatoes, crema, and cheese. The chimichanga burrito was not what I expected, but it was incredibly delicious. I was sorta expecting a burrito with chicken or beef, but this burrito was stuffed with beans, cheese, egg, and a delicious sauce. It was huge and I also couldn't finish my meal. My burrito was served with a side salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado.
For dessert we shared the Mexican style flan which was very good.
Prices were very reasonable considering the location, the quality, and the quantity of the food.
We will be back again soon.
Did I mention they had air...
Read moreHola, we visited this restaurant three times while we were in San Miguel Allende. On the last visit, we arrived at the restaurant at 2:59 PM. When we spoke to the waitress, we explained that we were there for the two for one margaritas and then later on in the evening we would be back for dinner. After the drinks we asked for our bill and a different individual Our credit card and then after running it one time said she made a mistake and had to run it again. We asked her why and she said that we were 52 seconds early before 3 o’clock even though our receipt said 3:00 PM. We tried to explain to her and she continued to fight the situation saying that the system showed that we were 52 seconds early for the two to one drinks. There was no sense in trying to argue the point since we were visitors and they were the restaurant. While we were explaining the situation to her, the waiter and the other two girls were standing behind us, listening to everything that was being said. For those who visit this restaurant, be sure to know your time, and also understand that trying to argue. Your point will not matter. Very disrespectful, very dishonest, and we kept our good karma and they were left with...
Read moreHola when we entered the restaurant, it was 2:59:40. When we spoke with the waitress, we asked if we were OK for the 2 for 1 starting at 3 PM, margaritas and she said yes. When we had our two margaritas enjoying the atmosphere, we then asked for the receipt and when we receive the receipt, we were charged a full price for each margarita. There was a lady who came to our table to take our credit card and she said because we were 50 seconds early, we were gonna be charged the full price. We are bilingual we try to explain to her what the waitress had told us and she did not care When we try to explain again she still didn’t care. It’s the principal! So we were charged full price for each margarita. We had been there previously three times and enjoyed the food. It was excellent and for us to be treated with so much disrespect. It was unbelievable. First time in San Miguel and we’re not sure if we will ever visit again. One bad apple does spoil the...
