Mercado Del Carmen. — Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

A great spot! A short walk to the Parroquia, and adjacent to a decent sized parking lot, this “mercado” features a number of excellent restaurants, a full bar, and often has live music in the evenings. Seating is open and centralized, with all the eating options along the walls. The restaurants all have full table service regardless of where you choose to sit. Chikatana is my personal fave of the selection of rad dining options here, but the bar service is laughably terrible. I've been here a dozen times and while the food at all the kiosks is always great, the Onza barkeeps are straight up negligent. Don't be surprised if they ignore you waving at them and then act surprised when you walk up to order a drink at the bar. We enjoyed the lunch we had with friends. It is disappointing that opening is advertised as 1PM but really, we could get food at only one place at that time. We had to bang on the door shortly after 1 to be let in. By the time we left more places were opening up, so 3PM might be a better time to go.
