Cafe de Isla — Restaurant in San Miguel de Cozumel

After a full morning of scuba diving, I caught up with my gf here who was having brunch. It’s a tucked away quaint little boutique cafe in the Northern side of the downtown. Easy to spot as it stands out from its crisp white exterior and light blue trim. I’m told it’s the best coffee on the island and my caffeine fix was certainly satisfied. It has a nice garden courtyard with a nice aesthetic. Food and dish presentation contributes to how delicious everything looks. I ordered the espresso waffle and snuck a few bites of chilaquiles off my partner’s plate. The waffle was a treat and the sugar fix I needed after diving. My husband was excited about this place for days and what a disappointment it was. They let us waiting for almost half hour before they served us drinks and I am 💯 sure they forgot about us because when one of the waitress ( that wasn’t ours) came to our table she was pretty surprised that we had not even been served drinks. They apologized saying there was an issue but I am pretty sure it was a lie. If that had been the case they would had told us initially to avoid leaving us there waiting for so long without knowing what was going on. Bad bad bad customer service. Update October 2024 This was my favourite go-to breakfast for 3 years. Today I took visiting friends and I was totally unimpressed. Eggs Benedict no longer comes with 2 sides. Check the small print, I missed this. 🙁 Plus, the egg was not poached but hard boiled. When I questioned it and asked for a poached egg, the girl told me they have two kinds of poached eggs: runny and hard. WT??? So if you've been before, make sure you ask for a runny poached egg and be ready to be charged for the small salad. (New photos at the bottom)
