Double check your tabs/bills when eating at a restaurant. I have always eaten at Maple Bakehouse, and have loved their service for many years. It was today that I noticed a scam that the servers were doing. There was two of us and we both ordered in Spanish so there was no confusion. The server brought out two of the same plate, and acted confused (it was an act). Immediately she brought it back and brought out my correct plate (no waiting for cooking time). I thought that was the end. The pastry I ordered never came out either. She never followed up to see how our order was. When we asked for the check, we were charged for two of the same plate and the correct one, as well as the pastry. Thinking it was just a mistake, I went to the cashier to correct the issue. At the cashier, in Spanish, one server said to our server, that it was the plate that she ate. My pastry was hidden in the oven as well. So this server was doing this to try and get me to pay for her breakfast. Apparently this is a scam around the island that I didn't know about. Double check those tickets when you ask for your tab. Very disappointed in Maple Bakehouse and hope that they fire their dishonest employees.
Staff are more on their phones at the counter having gossip time than attending the customers. Service has...
Read moreStopped in here tonight while aimlessly exploring the area. I had seen people raving about Maple Bakehouse and when I saw the sign I wanted to check it out.
We stopped in around 7:30pm on a Wednesday evening. It’s a small shop but most of the tables were full. The pastry wall was just about empty. I decided to order a drink to go.
I was interested in the hot chocolate. I asked the server what the difference was between the 3 choices and he told me he’s never tried them but basically the original is bitter, the Maya is a mix of bitter and sweet and the Belga is sweet. He said the last table he served said the Maya was the best hot chocolate they’ve ever had so I ordered that one with oat milk. It was about $5 usd.
We had a seat and waited for the drink. We waited, and waited and waited. At 15 min I asked the server if my drink would be ready soon because it had been quite a while. 5 min later he brought my to go cup out.
I took a sip and the hot chocolate was warm. Not hot but just warm. I didn’t like the taste. It had an aftertaste that left a peppery-like burning sensation in your throat.
It was a cute shop and overall the staff was friendly but I waited way too long for a luke warm drink that I...
Read moreBy far, the best breakfast (s) I've ever had. I ate here every day while visiting Cozumel. Even twice in one day. It's a small place, simply and tastefully decorated. I could have sat in there all day. Fresh, beautifully presented foods. Breads are homemade and are all delicious. The coffee? Outstanding (I recommend a latte with coconut milk, or a plain americano). The jugo verde is another of my favorites. Best "green" juice I've ever had. Here's what I had during my visits; Pan Frances (French toast), Peppersteak Sandwich, Apple Cinnamon Crepes, Fruit Plate, 3 cheese sandwich, the breakfast sourdough bread bowl (don't remember what it was called), the Iron Man Omelette, some sort of amazing pecan pie cinnamon roll hybrid pastry, and a parmesan baguette. ALL of it was incredibly good!! So good it made me mad that once I left, I would have no replacement to satiate the cravings. Service was great, and they were helpful with any questions. The menu is all in spanish but they are happy to help you if needed. Do yourself a favor and go here. Don't be in a rush, just sit back, sip your coffee and slowly savor every last...
