Overworked employees, old shotty gear and harassment after leaving an honest review.
During my husband’s first ever night dive his flashlight died after entering the water. The backup flashlight the Divemaster had was dead too. Luckily a friend of ours was along for the dive and shared his light with my husband the whole time. Afterwards, the shop manager basically accused my husband of lying and said that never ever happens. We hadn’t asked for a discount or a refund, it was very rude.
The next morning when I went out my air tank wasn’t switched between dives. Luckily, I noticed a few minutes into the dive. I do acknowledge that I should have checked before I got into the water but this is still a standard thing for the Divemaster or boat crew to do between dives. We were 8 divers to one dive master that day. Most other dive shops in Cozumel guarantee 4/1 ratio, as it should be.
On my third day of diving, about 40 minutes into the dive my air gage went from 1200psi to empty in one breath. Not sure if this was a faulty gage or blown o-ring (no sudden surge of air though) I had to rush to swim over to my Divemaster, who was not close by and grab his second stage to complete a safety stop and surface.
There was no acknowledgment of what happened in any of these instances, no apology or anything at all. I felt completely unsafe and would never put my life in their hands again.
Their vehicles both broke down over two days of diving with them. The gear is all old, worn out and has holes.
Another diver named Ray told me that he had been asked to pay for their month of dives upfront so the dive shop could pay for some repairs. Doesn’t seem like they did that. I
Divers in my group, who I spent these three days with told me of times earlier that week when half the group was out of air and were all sharing with the others to get the full hour dive in.
The dive master I was with every day, named Ari was incredibly unfriendly and just seemed exhausted. He was guiding morning and afternoon dives every day. He couldn’t be bothered to point out anything we passed during the dives. Luckily I was with other divers who had tons of experience and pointed out hidden marine life I would have otherwise missed.
We are really upset that we spent over $500 diving with them and didn’t have even one dive that went 100% as it should. I would absolutely NOT recommend them, even if they were the last...

We first started diving with Eco Divers in 2018, when we came down to Cozumel to get certified. We've been down four times since and only dive with them. They are wonderful guides - we've seen most of the aquatic life you can see in Cozumel with them. The groups are always small and the guides are always careful and attentive with all of the Divers, regardless. Of their experience levels.
More than anything else, though, it's the family experience they make possible that keeps us coming back. In the 28 dives I've done with them, my two kids have always been on the boat with us. My daughter was 9 months old the first time we went out. By the time she was two and my son was four, a divemaster/babysitter was teaching them how to snorkel while we were diving. Every time we get out of the water, they've got something new they've learned about the ocean that they're excited to tell us about something they've learned, from details about fish to the importance of conservation efforts (Carolina, their favorite divemaster, is doing a masters in marine biology and never tries to talk down to them).
This year, we came down with my in laws and we took them on their first night dives. The guides went above and beyond to take care of them and make them feel comfortable. We'll always keep coming back because of the special efforts everyone at Eco Divers make to take care of us. 2018 Review We had a wonderful time with Kristin, Daniel, Fernando, and the rest of the crew at Eco Divers. We did a day of snorkeling with the whole family, including 2 children under 3. They were able to arrange for a great babysitter to watch the kids in the boat. Then we dove 6 times and saw all of the things we wanted to see - eagle ray, nurse sharks, green and hawksbill turtles, splendid toad fish, morays, amazing corals... Couldn't be happier with...
Read moreWhen you dive with eco, you frequently find another loyal customer on the boat who has been diving with Kristin and Jorge for years and continues to come back. This is for a reason! They are safe, efficient, their staff is always kind, patient, and have the skills to help teach or guide experienced divers. There’s always good-natured banter on the boat, the staff truly love their jobs. They always have small groups and cater to each divers level. I have my DM and even when I am on the boat with brand new divers, there’s an option for me and an option for them that keeps everyone safe and in their realm of comfort. I’ve never seen an operation work so hard to cater to everyone’s needs. Have someone in your group who just wants to snorkel while everyone else dives? They will do this! They work with cruise schedules, they work with people coming from playa on the ferry, they don’t have rigid attitudes that make working with them difficult. They will transport you from the shop to the caleta, or you can take your own cab. They always communicate these kinds of things so that everyone on board is “on board” with the plan. Their staff are so personable, trustworthy, and always good for a conversation. Not to mention, they focus on preserving the reef and protecting the wildlife in Cozumel, which is so important to me because I want to keep coming back for many years! If you don’t want to feel pressured, nickel and dimed, safe your whole dive, AND have a great time checking out Cozumel’s underwater side, this...
