This place is so popular and overrated it’s absurd. It does look good from the outside, and there’s always lots of both locals and tourists here, but the time i went there it was not a great experience. First of all, i was seated right next to a large door at the back of the restaurant, at night. This door lead directly to a plot of land that was full of plants and presumably not really taken care of, it remained open the whole time and my table was to say the least, infested with mosquitoes which was disgusting. Second, the food i ordered. I ordered Al pastor tacos which seem to be the ones they really want you to try judging by the amount of trompos they have outside. The meat was very mushy, pale and overall lacked taste and had a weird texture. The Charro beans were passable, but being honest they seem to give you a really big plate but they fill it with watered down content and onions. Being honest almost every other place I’ve been in the island has better charro beans. I think they can improve but despite they’re objectively a flawed taqueria they seem to be amongst the most popular places. That being said, i think their prices are very convenient and that might explain why. and if you like what you’re served here it’s fine and i couldn’t care less, but i think this shouldn’t be the standard for...
Read moreAmazing pastor tacos. We also tried the pollo and steak tacos and everything was delicious. The food is really affordable and the service really quick. The staff doesn't appear to speak any English (at least when we visited), so a basic understanding of spanish helps if you come here. Also, the restaurant is an outdoor setting and there are no fans, so be prepared to be a little hot.
They serve the tacos either regular or with cheese and they give you a few ingredients to finish them up : onions with coriander, a green avocado based sauce which was mild, a red tomato based sauce which was quite spicy, limes and salt. We did a bit of everything and it was a wonderful meal. It's definitely worth a visit if...
Read moreMr. Taco was highly recommended as a spot that locals frequent for affordable, delicious tacos. We attempted to go there on a Monday night but they were closed 🥲 We tried again on our last night in Cozumel and they were open!! The service was SUPER fast and everything was delicious. We had charro beans, steak tacos (arrachera), chicken tacos (pollo) and, of course, the pastor. Everything was fresh and hot. Service was attentive and the meal was incredibly affordable. Highly recommend! … but maybe they’re closed on Mondays...
