I stayed at Caribo Cozumel for five nights in early June. I booked it because I was looking for somewhere inexpensive for a solo trip to Cozumel when I would mostly be focusing on diving and experiencing the city. The owners, Jorge and Carolina, are very friendly and professional and live on site with their family and are always available if you need them. I was in room 10, which is a standard room with a private bathroom. I had two entry doors, one from the street that I used almost exclusively and one into the courtyard where the pool is.
The room included a small refrigerator, safe, table and chairs, AC, and a very comfortable hammock. A 1L bottle of water was provided and I could refill it in the common kitchen for 5 pesos.
It is about a ten minute walk to the main plaza, but there is a well-stocked grocery store and several very good restaurants within a few blocks. Jorge gave me a map of Centro with some recommendations for restaurants and other attractions when I checked in. I know he actually likes these places because I ran into him and his family on my way back from getting fish tacos one day and they were headed to where I had just been. Despite not really seeing me all week, he immediately recognized me and sincerely asked if I was having a good time and enjoying the room.
The room was clean and comfortable, and my only complaint might be that a couple of nights the street noise was a little loud, but certainly not worse than anywhere else I've stayed in Cozumel. I felt very safe, both in the room and in the neighborhood, even after dark coming back from dinner or night diving.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay at Caribo...
Read moreCeleste, the manager was always available within healthy boundary hours. She is available to reach with her WhatsApp contract. She will help you with any question you have. The clientele is a mix of older and younger people when I was there. From Mid-20s to late-60s (retirees, digital nomads, scuba diving tourists and fanatics, couples, families (no children, just young adults), and people on sabbaticals). The space was clean and well maintained. There were a few off pieces like the door frame to room was off alignment. The furniture was dinged and scraped in many places. There was a missing large carpet that was shown in the pics but overall most of what you see in the pictures are true but somewhat outdated. As with almost every property in Mexico in the hospitality industry the current reality is not exactly matching with the past photo albums presented on their websites. People come and go and as a consequence the place gets some wear and tear through the process. So don’t expect everything to look as nice as the photos. Despite these small things, the bikes are decent for rental and you can get almost anywhere on the island in 2 hours. The neighborhood is safe. There is a gym across the street and many restaurants nearby. The guests are respectful, kind and friendly. The staff are polite, helpful and flexible. With all that said, I definitely...
Read moreCon’s -DO NOT RENT your scooter from their partner. Our mirrors were stolen in the hotel parking and the guy kept our full deposit because of it. 1500 pesos (90 dollars) is a lot for mirror … + the seat of the scooter was broken and the tank jauge too
EDIT: before arriving I asked for a price for 4 days and you gave me a price for 1 day without telling me it was for 4 days and not 1 day. And we DID take the insurance, the full package that was the most expensive one at 500 pesos. And the guy told us that stolen mirrors were not covered by it. It is really difficult to stay calm when you paid 500 pesos of insurance and 1500 pesos of deposit and the guy told you it is bad luck and he will keep everything.
-you have to wait 10 min to got cool water, we did not have hot water -they say they charge you for the towel for sustainability purpose but if it was so, charging per room per stay will be enough. But they charge (damaged) towel per person -it is really noisy, people coming late woke us up and we could hear their whole discussion
Pro’s -it is pretty with a lot of plant -price is...
