This is a difficult review to write. I have been there three times, twice in summer and once during Christmas/New Year's. Last time was this past summer.
The layout is a lovely indoor-outdoor. That means that summer is not the best time, but fans are strategically and plentifully placed.
The free guacamole, made at your table, is very nice indeed. The margarita, which looked like it was too large to be good, was good. The large class is filled with ice cubes, making the volume less than it looks. But there is plenty of drink nonetheless. As I was driving I had only one. The free lime soup has always been so-so. There are many better places to get Mexican food at much better prices in Cozumel. However, this place gets some fantastic seafood, specifically shellfish, especially crab. I had two species of crabs on two occasions, and they were delicious. Absolutely fresh and simply but perfectly prepared. My guess is that lobster and filet would also be excellent. I had desert twice, but this was less memorable. I did not have Sexy Coffee, which is a speciality, because I have diving scheduled very early morning.
But ... but ... service last time was atrocious. That is not what one expects here. The waiter was distracted, abrupt, and did not even ask if I was interested in desert. He did not even offer the fresh crab without my asking about daily specials. He said that "there might be some left," walked away, and eventually out came the crab. Shocking.
Given Covid tensions I understand some disorganization, but because there were so few customers (low season+Covid), the experience was, well, shocking. I did not ask for the desert menu because I wanted out.
However, I will not review based on only the last experience. Yet, I am inclined to weight the most recent experience heaviest. Therefore, my rating of 3/5. This is not really a Mexican restaurant, and you should order accordingly. You might want to skip the free soup and get a different one.
I will not be returning to Casa Mission this time during Christmas. It is not "extravagantly" priced for the quality if you order appropriately, but it is difficult for me to get past...
Read moreI don't know about the Tequilla tasting Tour, listed in Trip Advisor but we went therefor a highly recommended Lobster and steak meal/ a local person told us of. Most local Tequila stinks compared to Patron, which they say is junk... Just my opinion. BUT, I did a lot of research on google for restaurants near me, scrutinizing their online menus (pictures) with prices and reviews. We were tired of paying 150-180 USD for a meal with entree only and some wine (No appetizers, sides, etc). THIS looked the best on my analysis. It is a good distance into the town, away from the ferry/ cruise port and shoreline that most tourists troll. We were NOT disapointed. Prices were a little higher than the "Old dated menu" online (I will post the current one) but it was a great place, large and very safe. Food was top shelf, we got chips and salsa first, then bread and soup. Then the meal came with a starch and vegetable! Beer was very well priced. One reason I did all this research was I wanted a big lobster (Tail) and my wife wanted a real, Rib Eye Steak... both pricey. I got the 10 OZ tail and it was so tasty and I could not finish it all. I am a big guy so that says a lot (but I "Forced it down"). Wife could not finish only half of her steak. She got a baked potato w a lovely sauce and vegetables (see pix attached). And as we were leaving a 3 or 4 piece Mariachi band/ LIVE MUSIC started wandering the place. And they sounded good. Despite being such good food, they were the cheapest in town. I HIGHLY recommend this place. We may take the tequila tour just to eat there again. I am so happy with them, I will copy this post to Google, Yelp, etc. They were outstanding. And this is not a fake review, just a gringo from Maryland, USA. But here, I am MARCOS! Do not confuse this place with the other "... Mission" restaurant......
Read moreThis is one of the most aestheticaly pleasing and beautiful surroundings in which to dine or have a drink, The old courtyard now taken over by grassy lawns and charming summer furniture, surrounded by beautiful outhouses and the tall beamed dinning hall, give a sense of the beautiful house that has been converted.
The courtyard is beautiful with gorgeous views.
The reason I'm only giving four stars is the food, which is not bad, but plays it very safe. In fact if this restaurant did not have the excellent service and surrounding you wouldn't expect more from the menu.
The menu itself is classic fair safe salads, soups and ceviches to start and lobster, steak, fajitas etc mains.
I ordered the cream of asparagus soup that didn't quite capture the freshness of the summer vegetable, it had been slightly over cooked before blending or cooking of with the cream.
The ceviche was good and fresh though to my mind was unadventurous without any herbal zing or refinement.
The salad was unfortunate with tired tomotoes, shredded lettuce, canned corn and a dressing that spoke the sad story of a super market shelf.
Having said that, if you want food in a beautiful location and to know what you are getting with excellent service (at a fair price for location) this is for you.
If this place focused on a little more finess with thier menu it may be perfect.
You should come here at very least to see what a beautiful job they have done with the grounds, and enjoy a cocktail in the sprawling gardens or the summer patio, Or indeed the brightly light beautiful...
