A bit aback, first impression is poor, especially if you come and restarurant is empty. In Mexico there is one very simple rule, the more people, the better food. But we decided to risk, as we had no time. And a 15 minutes later restaurant was fulfilled by a lot of Americans. Yes, seems they cater them :-) At the beginning I thougt food was going to be not good, "touristic restaurant", probably also expensive. But was not so bad - food was quite good, however not so many salsas (it should be in Mexican restaurant), food was not spicy too much (probably to align to taste of tourists), but service was exceptional. They added beans to tacos, whilst we wanted solo chicken - after request they replaced it. Moreover, there was no tacos in menu, but they made it for us! From beers we can recommend Bohemia - actually Bohemia and Modelo are the only from popular beer relatively acceptable. Bill did not make our heart attack, actually I was positively surprised. In a nuthsell, if you afraid Mexican local food and you want try it and not to die :-D visit El Moro - you won't be...
Read moreThis is a mediocre (not bad, not good) place that has caught on with Americans. Cash only--and pretty expensive for what you get.
Margarita only so-so, despite the reputation. (Margaritas must balance lime, tequila, orange, and sweetness. They should be made with a quality agave-forward tequila and a quality orange liqueur like Cointreau. Try 2 oz Siembra Azul blanco, ¾ oz Cointreau, 1 oz lime juice, ¼ oz agave nectar. This is from the New York bar Death & Co.) Fish and shrimp dish was ... ok. It wasn't very pretty, and wasn't that interesting, but it was decently conceived and executed.
Waiter was too familiar. At the end he gave me change designed for a 20% tip. This was a mistake, as this American cannot be so easily manipulated. He didn't like the tiny tip I gave him, expressing faux concern that I couldn't afford it. Lol. In a few days I will be spending about $100 USD at Azul Madera. I would have given him...
Read moreAn amazing restaurant. It is out of the way so not a lot of tourist. I have been eating there for 18 plus years. Use to be a well kept secret that mostly only divers and locals knew about. But how could you keep it a secret with such an amazing family bringing you into what use to be there home literally and making you part of their family. There is not much on their menu that I a haven't tried and I have never had a meal there that I didn't enjoy. But the lobster is my favorite. I have never had any better or as good any where. 14 years ago I told a diver on our boat to do himself a favor and try El Moro before he left. Little did I know he would be the one doing me a favor. He showed with my now wife of 13 years. It has always been my favorite restaurant since I first tried it. Now I can honestly say it is a restaurant that makes...
