We visited for dinner as El Cid guests on the All-inclusive plan while on vacation at the resort. We had a heck of a time finding this place as Google maps had the wrong location but we have since suggested an update. It's in the same building as the pro shop. I'm not sure how it would work if you ordered a la carte, but with the all-inclusive you choose one item from each category, an appetizer, a simple roll, a deluxe roll, and an entree. You are also encouraged to eat from the salad bar, which was not too bad- our reservation was a bit later and they hadn't replenished some of the salad bar items. We had tempura and sashimi for the appetizer. The tempura was tough and overcooked and greasy, but the sashimi was delicate, very fresh and tasty. The rolls were good but heavy on the rice. I had the spicy roll for my deluxe and it seemed to have been made ahead with standard cucumber, avocado and fish roe- the shrimp and spicy mayonnaise seemed to have been added as an afterthought and there was far too much of the sauce which completely overpowered the fresh shrimp in the roll. The timing of the dinner was such that we were going to be too full to eat the entree and had to cancel as it would have been a waste to have it prepared and not eat it. All in all it was an acceptable dining experience but it was evident that they intended to make sure you were going to leave full which kind of diminished the experience. I would have preferred smaller portions and less rice in the rolls but I can understand why they do it this way. I'd go again if I were staying at the resort but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here if I were staying elsewhere...
Read moreWent here while staying at El Cid for a date night. I love sushi and eat it at home (Canada) quite often. Me and my partner left BanHoru very disappointed. Starters: we had the sunomono and the tuna sashimi. The sunomono lacked the vinegar and was not quite a 'soup'. The sashimi felt like 1/6 the portion you would receive back home.. Mains: we had the beef yakisoba and the mazatleco. The beef teriyaki had spaghetti noodles not udon.. the beef was small pieces WAY overcooked and very salty. This dish was honestly gross. The Mazatleco was a very nice sushi roll, very simple and fresh. The only 1 of 2 rolls that had raw tuna/fish. Desserts: we had the green tea cake and the chocolate brownie. Green tea cake was very light and not very sweet. Had a light icing and a jam. The chocolate brownie was AMAZING and the ice cream paired with it was coffee(?) It was so good. Atmosphere: dark, crowded- you are 1.5 ft away from the next table. No music so the chatter was noisy. I do like the gas candle on the tables though. Service: slow however each member was very friendly and helpful. Our table did get 2 waiters at first and we had our order taken twice until they figured it out. I also never received the green tea that I ordered twice.. Other things to note : the bathroom is not in the restaurant. It's down the hall of the building beside reception. The fish tank in that reception was disgusting- the glass was Green. Soy sauce was lighter...
Read moreDon't eat here. It was the only reservation we could make at El Cid. We sat for over 15 minutes before I had to grab the hostess as she walked by to ask if anyone was going to take a drink order. After we finally ordered, it took 20 minutes for our first course to arrive. After sitting there for over an hour, three of our party of seven got their main course. They were just about done when the rest of us got our meals. The food was cold, tough, over seasoned, and gave one of us food poisoning. Half of our party didn't bother to stay for dessert. El Cid needs to revamp their reservation system completely. Luckily, our contract is expiring, and we won't...
