Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our overall experience with this restaurant. We had high expectations from all the reviews and they did not meet these expectations. Our server was not friendly, he did not want to accommodate our table of 10 for outside service and ultimately we ended up separating into 2 tables. (Side note, the restaurant was not busy with only 2 other tables at the time) More than 1/2 of us ordered clam chowder as a starter (why we were there in the 1st place) and fish&chips for our main that was being shared. When our food arrived, it all came out at the same time. The soup had a film on top of it from sitting and was warm but not hot. It ate more like a bisque with a few chewy pieces of clams and although it did taste good it was underwhelming. Our fish was delicious but the potatoes wedges and sweet potato fries were cold. The owner did come around and ask how our food was and offered more fries but we did decline the offer as we were almost done eating. Our server never did ask us how our meal was and we had to ask another server to get him so we could get another round of beer. Over all, there are a lot of amazing restaurants in Mazatlan to choose from and this one will not get our...
Read moreDecent food. Terrible service (attempted tipping scam).
The food itself was fine if a bit expensive. Nothing spectacular. Definitely oversized portions for the tourist crowd, so be prepared for that.
But the service was the worst we've experienced in Mazatlan (which in general has been fantastic).
To be clear, the woman who bussed our table was great. Kind and friendly.
The guy who served us, though, was perfunctory and inattentive right from the beginning. I can forgive that. It was busy and he could be trying to work quickly. But when another couple came in and got a very different vibe, I figured something was up.
This all culminated in an attempted little scam. When I paid with a credit card, at the point where I could select a tip, rather than handing me the machine the server "offered" me the options: 10, 15, or 20%. Suspicious, I tilted the machine toward me. He'd lied: the options were 5, 10, and 15.
I don't know what we did. We try to treat servers with decency and respect. It's a shame that it wasn't...
Read moreI do not understand the rave reviews of this place; unless of course they were written by blind drunks; of which there are far too many in Mazatlan. The fish is gross. They use salt with a very heavy hand. Here we are on the Pacific and they serve seafood that tastes like it came from the Walmart freezer. Simply awful. The beer is good and cold and the waiters are typical of Mexico, meaning they are excellent, friendly, courteous, attentive. I love Mexicans. That love does not extend to this overrated restaraunt. I even gave it three tries hoping that maybe my past experience was just bad luck or something. No it is simply the worst place in town. I am not affiliated with Pancho's (the one on Sabalo) but I have to say time after time the food there is terrific. If you want quality for your...
