We had high hopes for this new restaurant. Service was poor as our table of four was neglected due to their 2 servers focusing on the large tables. Twice we waited for drinks over 20 minutes from order. What is ironic is that a table of 2 came in at about 8PM when half the tables were empty and got drinks in 5 minutes and food in 15. So either come early to be first or come late and you will get good service. I imagine also if it is not very busy, you may get good service. In addition one of our meals came 20 minutes late. My friend had to endure watching us all eat and finish before her steak came. To top it off it was barely luke warm. It was cooked properly, but we had to wave down the waiter to take it back to heat it up. The food was OK, not great and definitely on the small side. The mushroom appy was OK, though I detected no goat cheese. $140 pesos for 6 medium mushrooms seemed high. We basically all commented when we left that we were all still hungry and joked about getting fast food on the way home. Drinks were good but the Cosmo was small so unless you want a 5 oz drink, don't order it. As we were leaving and I was paying by debit, the owner (lady) asked how our meals were and I said ok, but the steak dinner came cold. She said sorry as it was busy and offered nothing to appease us. Really? That's not going to get my friends and I back there anytime soon. The atmosphere was nice, and the music was great. Though too loud at times so we had to yell at each other to be heard.
La Patina needs to make their meals bigger or give bread or something the table can snack on. Also the menu needs more items. Proper attention to even small tables needs...
Read moreWe wanted to try a new place and, despite the lack of reviews, trusted the limited opinions. It was a mistake. The menu is interesting, but the execution was disappointing. We ordered the beet salad and, well, it was mostly arugula drowning in dressing, with a scattering of diced bits of beets, red onion, and walnut. Why is it called a beet salad?
The Spanish meatballs were dense and would have been tastier if they hadn’t been over cooked and dry. Cider glazed chorizo was tasty. My friend ordered the tequila and lime chicken and described it as dry, tasting a little of tequila, and only garnished with lime. My other friend and ordered a medium rare filet mignon. She had to send it back because it was overdone. The replacement was also overdone in the thinner parts. Our waiter never asked if it was any better. Most of the time he returned to the table it was only to ask us if we wanted another drink. The margarita was delicious. So, this is an honest review. There are so many better places to eat in Mazatlán right now. Give this one a miss until they get their...
Read moreThis is a new establishment. Large, pretty space. Smaller intimate bar; tables are not set too close together. Feels like a great event space. You wouldn’t necessarily expect it on this block. Lots of potential. Menu seems creative. Meatballs will probably be ordered by many so I’ll be more detailed there. Very close to a Mediterranean meatball but extremely dry and dense. The mustard sauce was good & an interesting addition. It’s a miss for me. My partner felt the same and that the margaritas are on the sweeter side (plus with bartender willing to try to customize). I think that if you want a cold, tropical drink, it’s a great place to try one. They have 2 for one margaritas and beers and have other plans for events. Staff seems friendly, however, not my preference to eat next to staff or have staff interrupt or sit with us too much. My partner doesn’t think I should write such an honest review but we’ve always said as a business owner, regardless what area or country, you should...
